“Do I have to leave?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

A Parisian colleague booked rooms for us at this chateau while we were working in Normandy and I couldn't have been more happy with the accommodations. The rooms are gorgeous and each one has its own unique character.

The grounds are beautiful and open for walks and exploration. The owner, Simon, and his staff were very welcoming and they speak English and French fluently, so communication was never an issue.

I would love to stay here again on another trip. It's like time travel, but you get to keep your internet connection, heating, and indoor plumbing. What more could one ask for?

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet because the chateau is nestled deep within the estate. The rooms are on the sec...

“Unforgettable Norman Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

We recently spent four wonderful days in Normandy and truly enjoyed our stay at Chateau de L'Isle-Marie. Simon, the proprietor, made every effort to ensure that our stay was comfortable and helped plan experiences custom-tailored to our interests. We especially enjoyed the dinner that he hosted in the old Chateau, with a roaring fire in the huge fireplace, following a very interesting talk about the chateau and his family's thousand year history in Normandy. He went above-and-beyond by driving us to dinner, twice, as we had no vehicle. Our very large and light-filled tower room, was decorated in warm toile de jouy patterns and had a huge bathroom. The water pressure was perfect and the bed was so comfortable.
Simon took the time to make our stay in Normandy truly memorable, and we cannot wait to return to Chateau de L'Isle-Marie.

“Quite an experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Originally booked to stay in Chateau De Pont-Rilly, but they double booked their accommodation and L'Isle Marie was offered as a last minute alternative. A stroke of luck. Stayed in an apartment - be prepared for the quiet (no tv, radio, internet, etc.), Perfect setting. Communal dinner in old chateau was a treat. Lecture about the history of the family and chateau before dinner was engaging. Owner does not appear to like Trip Advisor although can't imagine why given the reviews.

“Charming, gracious chateau - perfect location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2011

While touring France in July 2011 with two teenage granddaughters, we were fortunate to stay in this gem of a chateau for two nights. The location was perfect for touring Normandy, both the ancient French historical sights including the Bayeau Tapestry and more recent WWII sights including St. Mere Eglise, the Normandy beaches and the American Cemetery. The chateau has been in the same family for over 1,000 years and is warmly and personnally overseen by the current generation. We occupied a suite of two grand, enormous connecting bedrooms with an equally large, nicely updated bathroom (in a tower! with a separate walk-in shower!) on the second floor. The rooms were charmingly decorated in antique furnishings, with glorious views of the forest and rear terrace and lawn, which was mowed to reveal a maze pattern in the grass. The continental breakfast served in the grand dining room was generous and delicious. Although the chateau does not have a restaurant, with prior arrangement they can serve dinners. They also provided written directions to nearby local restaurants, which we found with ease and which we enjoyed immensely (and would never have found without their direction, since these were truly "local"). We will definitely visit again and recommend a stay here.

As with others on this board, I cannot say enough the feeling we had as a family when driving up seeing the beautiful grounds, chateux slowly appearing before us, with all of us looking at eachother in awe. We were in Europe for a month...hands down, the Normandy region with so much history that includes William the Conquerer, the unforgettable DDay experience and beaches, the chateux with its grounds and history (Occupied by the Germans in WWII), the local food, etc. was our favorite. We took our 3 kids: ages 13, 10, & 5, and though we would not normally bring children to a place like this, this was something that they had to experience, and behaved very well so much that Simon mentioned it to us at the end of the trip complimenting their behaviour. So if you bring kids, please sit down with your kids and ensure that they understand the importance of good behavior/respect of the chateux and other guests staying there. My wife and I will go back in a couple of years, and cannot wait. The location was perfect to venture out to bayeux, Cain, and St. Michel. The chateux is not easy to find so a GPS is a MUST. We had such a wonderful time experiencing the beautiful decor, and grounds. In addition, enjoyed the local drive to St. Mere Englise (10min drive). My son who is a picky eater could not wait each morning for the breakfast served, which was simple, but plenty and tasty.
