Arrived on October 26, 2008, and will check out after 3 nights in room 1001.
I concur with everything MapleG wrote, and the small room (twin for two of us) didn`t bother me. I like the deep bath tub (Japanese style) in the room...nice to relax in after a long day of sightseeing. I was pleasantly surprised with the breakfast. It has the western items mentioned by MapleG and also Japanese items such as miso soup (instant), onigiri (4 different kinds of rice balls), little containers of green salad, potato salad and macaroni salad and fresh fruit, yogurt etc. There`s also free water and coffee dispensed from 3 pm to midnight in the lobby - a wonderful convenience. .
And speaking of convenience, the hotel is very close to the JR train station, and Yamagata is a convenient location for day trips to Ginzan onsen (visited yesterday), and Fukushima (visited today via Shinkansen and JR pass). Also, the site where the ruins of the Yamagata castle are located is only a 20-minute walk from the hotel.
Price for lodging is reasonable, room is very clean, and there is free internet access via lobby computer which I`m using right now to write these comments. Friendly and helpful lobby staff and efficient housekeeping staff. If I get a chance when I return home, will post some photos.
