Stayed here for 2 nights in March 2008 while making a 10 day trip to Japan. Spent the first 8 nights in Tokyo, and the last 2 here. No real reason for picking Yamagata, other than I found this hotel on the net, and I had a rail pass, so what the heck.

Price-could not beat it--5800 Yen per night for single person. (Compare that to 14,200 in Tokyo for a smaller room at the same time of year).

Amenties-Great free Breakfast with coffee, juice, western and Japanse fare. 2 cereal choices, frest fruit cups, buns and cakes, along with some Japanese choices (while I like Japanese food, I stick to Western for Breakfast). Free Coffee (freshly ground too) for guests after 3pm till Midnight.

In the room there are the usual items-slippers, robe, toothbrush, brush, kettle, flat screen TV, free wireless and wired Interet access, and a fridge. Very nice modern bed with a floor lamp, reading lamp and radio built into it. Room typically small, but for the price, I am not complaining. There also are free trouser presses, and a laundromat too which comes in handy.

I booked via the Choice Hotels International web site, and their directions were correct. A very short walk from the train station, go out the EAST exit, along the pedestrian walkway, and down the escalator--you will see the hotel just up the street on the left hand side. Variety store next door, plus some 24 hour fast food places, so you won't starve, no matter what time zone you are on!!
