Stayed here for the one night in July 2011 as a base for a two day tour of the area including Skye. Its perfect for Eilean Donan, access to Skye and for the villages of Plockton and Stormeferry. Just a little further along, you can easily head off to Kishorn, and if you dare... Applecross!
The hotel was a very quick last minute choice as part of our decision to head to Skye for a day, and then to head further north the next day.
With its A87 location, its an easy drive if you want to avoid the more precarious routes [that you will come across, should you head off the main route!], and offers, rather naturally, the spectacular views of Lochalsh.
Itself, the hotel is as good as you will find in the Lochalsh area - if not the West Highlands.
However, when writing this, one must bear in mind that we are reviewing a remote West Highland hotel. Its not a 4 star hotel in a city centre. Instead, it has bags of character, with attention to detail - when was the last time you saw a cleaner paying attention to brasses with a tin of polish in any hotel?
Our room [number 5] had great views across Lochalsh, and was well presented. Importantly: it was very clean, and that's what we primarily look for in a remote hotel. Sure, the en-suite bathroom was a throwback to 1980, with creaky floorboards et al, but this is the highlands!
Breakfast was perhaps a little on the sparse side, but no complaints on the food itself [except, maybe colder milk for the cereal].
No problems in recommending this hotel; it's not a large city based chain, but we'll be back next time we are in the area.
Spotlessly clean, with really nice and friendly staff, and an owner who will aim to accommodate and please.
