Very beautiful hotel right on the main road of Pozza di Fassa !! Descent restaurant with a big salad buffet . Very friendly barman as well as all the personell. Ask for Igor , he is your man if you are interested in Skiing on the Dolomites. Gianpiero (the owner) is a very nice old man with lots of expererience on the mountains, so don't forget to to ask his opinion on anything you want ..

Room Tip: Just aski for Igor to serve you. He is The Best receptionist in Italy, ready to ski with you if you...

“Great hotel for skiing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 February 2011

Stayed in annex - newly refurbished, large well furnished room with new bathroom and plenty of hot water for shower/bath. Heating very effective. Could hear some noises from adjacent rooms. Food very Italian but good and plentiful. Skibus to Campitello & Canazei (for Sella Ronda) stops outside but need to check timetable carefully for return times to avoid being stranded in the evening after 5pm (stops at next hotel 100yds away). Hotel minibus shuttles to Buffaure lift mornings and evenings - a great service. Buffaure ski area OK but not extensive but goes across to Alba where you can catch skibus to Canazei for Belvedere telecabine & Sella Ronda.

“Excellent hotel in lovely town, fabulous food and service!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

I thought I would write a review of this hotel as there didn't seem to be many english ones.
My partner and I recently booked the Gran Baita for a skiing holiday away with my parents. We stayed in the main part of the hotel, the newer rooms being in a seperate building which was joined by a walkway. We were given two rooms close to one another, ours was on the corner of the hotel and had a double bed and also a single with two windows in the room. There was a nice sized bathroom which was spotless and we were given fresh towels everyday. The rooms are a good size with a comfortable bed. The only complaint I would have about the rooms is my parents couldn't turn their heating down and when they asked how to lower the temperature the receptionist told them the heating controlled the whole hotel so couldn't be adjusted for individual rooms! We slept with the windows open and shutters closed so the light didn't come in.
We collected our skis from the local ski shop we had booked through Crystal - it was a bit of a walk with skis but not too far. If you don't fancy the walk the hotel mini bus is very good and will drop you off at the shop if you ask.
The food is to a very good standard - you choose what you want the next day the night before. There is a salad bar which is always full of delicious antipasti. The only thing that let it down was the white wine which didn't really taste of much - we swapped it for red and from then on only red was waiting for us. Nothing is too much trouble for the waiters - one night I didn't fancy any of the mains so asked for one of the starters as my main, no problems! After dinner we mainly went to the bar area which had comfortable seats and was quite quiet. There is another room with big sofas and chairs which has a guy singing most nights - it wasn't our cup of tea but some guests seemed to really enjoy it.
There is a spa area which is very nice after a full days skiing. It had a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, showers and massage rooms (at an extra cost). You can 'rent' a robe for 5euros for the week which, in hindsight, I wish we'd got as the run back to your room is very cold after sitting in the steam room!!
Breakfast is good, typical hotel buffett syle with cereals, yoghurts, breads, cakes, hard boiled eggs, poached fruit (pears/peaches), crossiants/pastries .. my mum wasn't impressed with the coffee for an Italian hotel. It came from a machine that used powdered milk and left 'scum' on top.
The ski room is good (you are given a card to access it with as it is at the back of the hotel from reception) with heated boot rails and we never had to wait for the hotel minibus to take us to the gondola.
All in all we had a great holiday with great snow, weather and made only better by the hotel :) Well recommended!!

“Great hospitality at the Gran Baita”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2009

The hotel is in 2 parts with the newer and probably more expensive annexe, linked through a comfortable lounge area (with piano) and a short corridor to the older original building where meals are taken. We stayed in the annexe having booked a late deal with Crystal making the entire trip affordable. Given the exchange rate, without this the hotel would have been beyond our means ! Rooms very comfortable with balcony and either bath or shower. Plenty of space for the twin beds though not quite sure where a third would go...! Desk and armchair and plenty of storage. The wellness centre is excellent as is the food and the ski storage with heated boot racks.

Town is a short walk in normal footwear - a hike in ski boots! But the hotel runs a courtesy service am/pm to the 2 local set off ski points, so dont worry about this. If you want to go further afield then you may have to use the heavily over subscribed ski buses. If you plan well, you can minimise the problems this causes, perhaps use the courtesy service to Buffaure, ski over to Alba, catch the underused ski bus there, at the base of the black or cable down, to Canazei and get up and into the Sella Ronda from there. I have to say though that for anyone less than a fit strong intermediate, you wont do the circuit in time using this method and even if you are, queues on the route were a nightmare the week after half term. So perhaps spend a few days going against the flow and visit San Pelligrino and Passo Costalongo as we did using the coach services that stop right outside the door. Be careful though, there are only a few services both there and back and taxis are not cheap!! There are other 1 or 2 day resorts in striking distance too, but i cant comment on these. I would imagine that some guests might wish to bring a car to really open up the area and various access points, so worth checking re parking with the hotel.
