“Very low standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

Stayed here for one night after taking advantage of the travelodge sale. We have stayed in some really nice travelodges but this has to be the worst. It was quite embarrassing as we had paid for a room for my parents who didn't look impressed, but kept their opinion to themselves through politeness. The paintwork was dirty, the carpet old and worn. The one pillow for each person was like a aldi budget item, and the bathroom was shockingly shabby. The location wasn't ideal as it was £8 each way into Shrewsbury, but that would have been tolerated if the standard was better, won't be back, even at £19. Would rather get a B&B in Shrewsbury.

“One of the worst Travelodges”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

I spent 3 days at this Travelodge. The staff were friendly but the standard of housekeeping was appalling. The net curtains were so filthy I had to take them down. The windows looked as though they had not been cleaned for many months. The worst was indeed the dust around the legs of the bed. When I looked underneath it was horrendous. I would estimate that the bed had not been moved for well over 12 months if not much longer. At most Travelodges clean cups are provided each day. Not at this place. If we had not taken washing up liquid with us we would have had very dirty cups by the end of our stay. Litter in the surrounding area could have filled a considerable number of black bags and when I pointed out to the receptionist that there was a pair of men's trousers, a pair of underpants and a pair of socks outside her comment was ' yes I have seen those'.

Room Tip: I usually prefer west facing at the top of the building. Less noise from creaking floorboards or no...

“As you would expect”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

This was exactly as you would expect from an overnight stay in a travelodge. Facilities in rooms are the standard tv, tea/coffee, shower etc. I have to say despite the excellent price the bed and shower were poor.

On arrival in the room no towels were left in the room and no duvet left for the spare bed. But the helpful receptionist sorted this.

The hotel is located in a good location just outside Shrewsbury. A 10 minute walk away in Bayston Hill is a good pub called the Three Fishes which does good food.

“Best £12 room I've stayed in.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Its a Travelodge. It was clean and had the basics needed but the selling point was the price. A place to stay for less than a takeaway. Did not notice the noise others have complained about.
Was not impressed with the Little Chef next door although the garden centre also does breakfasts.

“Cheap but adequate”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and the beds were comfy. The whole place was very tired and needed a refurb (e.g., old stained but clean vinyl in bathroom) but as we only paid £30 for a family room, I thought it good value and would happily revisit.
The Esso service station very nearby provided excellent customer service (when the costa cafe part was closed, the manager offered to make up a cup of chocolate for us). Next time I pass Shrewsbury will definitely be dropping in again
