“Lovely pub in a beautiful location, thoroughly recommended.”

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of May 2011 and enjoyed our stay from first to last. The staff were friendly and helpful and in fact went out of their way to help us on more than one ocassion. The room was much better than those we have previously experienced in the UK. It was very comfortable, clean and well supplied with robes and also with a good selection of teas, coffees and water, no scrimping here. We ate outside in the covered patio area both nights and found the food enjoyable and the surroundings excellent. A favourite pastime was sitting by the outdoor fire enjoying a glass or two under the stars. My other half is not given to effusive praise but was happy to admit that the Waterman's was the best small hotel he has stayed in. We went from Devon to what should have been something similar in Derbyshire - believe me, no comparison we should have stayed longer.

“Gorgeous!”

As a first stop on a romantic christmas tour we were thrilled with this Inn. Set right opposite the river it was stunning in winter. Although it was quiet due to the time of year (the week before christmas) the staff were so friendly and welcoming. It proved to be a wonderful base for walking and exploring the area. We had our little dog with us and they were more than happy for her to be in the room and the bar. We met some locals in the bar who were equally as warm and welcoming and regailed us with ghost stories as it is said to be haunted which fascinates me (but not the other half!). Our room was absolutely lovely (a four poster!) overlooking the river and even though the temperatures were low we had to keep the window open to listen to the water. Breakfast was large and set you up for the day. Dinner was equally as delicious. It would definitely be worth seeing in the summer.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the river. Gorgeous.

“Just Perfect”

Just the perfect place to stay, made to feel at home, nothing too much trouble, pub accommodation that goes that little bit extra. Excellent food, to match any of the restaurants in the area. Highly recommend this little gem in it's peaceful surroundings. Even the pub dogs are a pleasure to be amongst. It's a chocolate box setting.

Room Tip: the rooms in the annex are lovely, I've stayed in worse 3 star hotels, with smaller rooms. Plen...

“Best meal in ages!”

Visit this pub and you certainly won't be disappointed, in a lovely setting by the river and a nice friendly place where you are made most welcome. We enjoyed a delicious lunchtime meal there today and also with friendly prompt smiley service from the staff. (a rarity in this day and age). We ordered the Burger and Cottage Pie, both made with local meats and my goodness there was so much I couldn't eat it all. The vegetables were also done just right. We waited a while and managed to squeeze down a pudding each - Chocolate dough balls with cream and Apple crumble - also very tasty. Its now 10pm and we are still full..
You must visit soon, but not all at once or else we won't get a table next time. Not a 'cheap' lunch but well worth the money.

“Beautiful position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Stayed for 5 nights with a friend and had a great time. In good weather you can sit out by the river with drinks or meals. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom modern. Only thing I didn't really like was the shower over the bath which was a bit restricted. We hadn't planned to eat in the hotel all the time but the food was excellent so we dined in the restaurant each evening. This enabled us to share some wine and not have to worry about the windy roads. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
