“Best meal in ages!”

Visit this pub and you certainly won't be disappointed, in a lovely setting by the river and a nice friendly place where you are made most welcome. We enjoyed a delicious lunchtime meal there today and also with friendly prompt smiley service from the staff. (a rarity in this day and age). We ordered the Burger and Cottage Pie, both made with local meats and my goodness there was so much I couldn't eat it all. The vegetables were also done just right. We waited a while and managed to squeeze down a pudding each - Chocolate dough balls with cream and Apple crumble - also very tasty. Its now 10pm and we are still full..
You must visit soon, but not all at once or else we won't get a table next time. Not a 'cheap' lunch but well worth the money.

“Beautiful position”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Stayed for 5 nights with a friend and had a great time. In good weather you can sit out by the river with drinks or meals. The room was large and comfortable and the bathroom modern. Only thing I didn't really like was the shower over the bath which was a bit restricted. We hadn't planned to eat in the hotel all the time but the food was excellent so we dined in the restaurant each evening. This enabled us to share some wine and not have to worry about the windy roads. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

“What a great weekend”

We stayed in this delightful hotel as part of a group of 10 celebrating a 50th Wedding Anniversary. The hotel, bar and restaurant fully meet the high expectations set by its idyllic setting and outside appearance. The food was excellent, both in quality and quantity - my compliments to the chef. The staff were amongst the friendliest and helpful I have ever come across, there was nothing too difficult for them to entertain. If dining in their restaurant I fully recommend you ordering the cheese board. Mein host is a wizard at extolling the virtues of an exceptionally well kept board. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, enjoy your stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in the purpose built annex which has slighty larger rooms with baths.

“Great Accommodation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2011

We had two double rooms which were adequately equipped, great bathrooms actually. There was also a DVD player on the landing that the kids could use which I believe was very thoughtful of them

The pub downstairs had a really good atmosphere and the staff in the pub and the the hotel were all friendly and really hospitable. They went out of their way to make sure that everybody was looked after.

Breakfast was excellent, it is difficult to think of many criticisms of this place. It wasn't cheap, £100 for a double room per night but probably market rate for Totnes area.

“Great Location, Great food - slightly tired decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

My wife and Amy (the dog) stayed here for 3 nights - had a really good time.

The location is really good being so close to Bow Creek - good selection of reasonably priced wines / beer and the food is very good. We had planned to eat in Totnes but we were so impressed by the food that we ate in the restaurant every night.

If you have a dog then this is a very dog-friendly hotel - they are allowed in the bar and the restaurant (as long as they are well behaved of course).

We found the staff to be very helpful, friendly and chatty.

My only negative is that some of the decor (e.g. hall and stairs to the bedrooms) is a little tired and could do with a coat of paint - but take this as part of the charm of the Waterman's. The bedroom was very clean and tidy but the furniture was a littlke dated..

Overall - really liked it !
