The water taxi dropped us off in a rainstorm on what looked like a deserted beach, and sure enough there was a road and a bus stop, and a little store where we found Elena, who offered to give us a reduced rate in one of the two Cabanas at her place. It was comfortable and well furnished. She is an awesome cook, and though the restaurant was closed for vacation, she offered to cook for us and we joined her husband and their friends for wonderful food and lively conversation. Memorable: the big toads, volunteering in the library, learning to make coconut oil, the most gorgeous beach you can imagine for swimming and running, with maybe 10 people out there in the whole 17 K during the rainy season. The best part was meeting Elena, a terrific networker speaking both Spanish and English, she made sure we had a wonderful time. Bring good bug repellent!
We will be back!
