“A comfortable place you can almost call home!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Nova Scotia! John and June are wonderful people and even better hosts. We really enjoyed our stay, and felt like we were at home. The morning breakfasts were fantastic and bountiful, and conversation was always interesting and fun. Annie and Ruby (the dogs) made us smile with their playfulness and warm greetings. We felt very relaxed and comfortable, and highly recommend staying here if you are planning a trip.

Room Tip: The Geatz room has a private entrance which is nice to sit out in the late evening or early morning...

We enjoyed your stay with us very much and thank you for taking the time to write such a nice review. We often think of our guests as "extended family" and try to treat them as such - in the best possible way. We hope your Nova Scotia experience and your stay with us exceeded your expectations.

“Dog Friendly Oasis”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

We spent a week here in the roomy front suite with our two retrievers. The room was very large and had plenty of room for our two dog crates. It had a fireplace and onsuite bathroom.

The room is great because it is near the front door so we could go in and out with the dogs and not disturb the other guests. In the foyer is also a small fridge for guests and a computer work station for guests as well. John and June also provided dog towels here for drying off our dogs. The dogs were welcome to swim in the lake and could dry off on the decks.

Their home is amazing. Several decks, with wonderful views of the lake and their beautiful landscaping. They also have a screened in gazebo overlooking the lake, AND a boathouse with another deck overlooking the lake. They have a two person kayak, one person kayaks and a canoe and paddle boat guests can take out on their large lake. We enjoyed a morning paddle around the lake and saw loons, and beautiful scenery.

Do check out their facebook page as John has put a video of the rooms and house on it. But it just cant show it all. It is better than the video!

John takes the time to print out directions and maps to all of our destinations - and you need these as some of the roads take some wierd turns! He gave us multiple suggestions on hikes and adventures and every one was a hit. He even had discount coupons to a local restaurant which became one of our favorite stops. The bread at the Tourist Trap is to die for!

John and June go out of their way to make the guests comfortable and are excellent hosts. They made coffee for us when we had to leave early before breakfast, and shared wine with us on their deck one night.

Wish we were closer so we could return more often!

Thank you for your kind words! We really enjoy hosting our furry friends as well as, of course, their owners. Having two beautiful flat-coated retrievers was a first for us and a most enjoyable experience; to top it all one was even a "Canadian Champion"; an award won at the recent halifax dog show. Out two dogs always like to meet "new friends" also. We are glad you enjoyed our B&B and added amenities and thank you for taking the time to write a review

“An excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2011

We made our reservation online and on short notice, with no problem. John and June replied promptly and gave us clear directions on how to reach them from our previous night's stay in Canso. In addition, signs on the highway guided us to their quiet spot.

As the other reviews indicate, the facilities are first-rate: a beautiful, well-maintained house set in a lovely garden by a lake. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with an elegant ensuite bathroom. Just outside our door was a well-appointed computer workstation.

What really sets the Elephant's Nest apart from many other B&Bs might be called proactive professionalism: John and June know what you're going to want before you know it yourself. So we didn't just get tips about places for dinner--we got the actual menus from those places, as well as clear directions to them.

We enjoyed not only a fine breakfast but some good conversation as we got to know John and June. They also made excellent suggestions about places to visit on our last full day in Nova Scotia, complete with helpful maps. (Nova Scotia highway signage is not great, so these maps were invaluable). I wish we could have stayed longer.

“What a lovely beginning to our week in Nova Scotia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

John and June Meehan were the perfect inn keepers to have at the beginning our a first visit to Nova Scotia. They were friendly, well informed and above all pleasant. They took the time to review our itinerary and gave us excellent tips for our adventure. Plus they provided excellent bed and breakfast accommodations. Even though it was overcast and rainy while we were there, the grounds were lovely. You can do no better than to stay at this place.

“Much more than a place to sleep and enjoy breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2011

What a great surprise and what a wonderful introduction to Nova Scotia! We were two couples from Florida who wanted to see Nova Scotia. We divided the responsibility of planning our 8 days and nights between the two couples. My wife and i were to plan the first 4 days and nights we were there and she did the homework well. The Elephant's Nest was our first night in Nova Scotia and the plane was 2 hours late getting into Halifax. The driving instructions from the airport to the Inn were fine. After checking in, John and June gave us directions to an easy to find place for a lovely Nova Scotia supper that put all the tension of all the flight problems behind us.
In addition to wonderful, comfortable accommodations, they provided us an introduction to Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island; history, economics, driving times and distance, and the people of this delightful place. That time spent at breakfast with John and June was the clearly one of the beneficial and memorable parts of our vacation. It really prepared us for the balance of our trip and made it most enjoyable. We cannot recommend a stay there more highly.
