“Very convenient for M62 and M60”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions to break our trip from the south coast up to the north of England. It is very well situated and is less than a minute from the M60 and very close to the M62. I don’t know how convenient it is to get into the centre of Manchester from here.

Reception staff are always friendly and efficient. We have eaten in both The Dining Rooms (their main restaurant) and the Sports Bar and in both we have had good food and good service. Breakfasts are the usual Marriott buffet with great choice.

Whilst we generally have a superior room, most of these are no bigger than standard rooms. In fact, the only difference seems to be that superior rooms get bath robes which are useful when walking down to the leisure club.

Their pool is one of the largest we have come across in a Marriott hotel and has separate roped-off sections for families and serious swimmers. There is also a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There is a gym but we have never used it. For golfers, there appear to be very good facilities but we do not play golf so cannot speak about the course.

The only problem we have had at this hotel is the availability of parking and we have had problems finding a space a couple of times. Once, in October 2011, there was no parking space at all and reception suggested we use the Leisure Club parking on the other side of the hotel which was far from ideal. During summer weekends, the hotel is busy with both golfers and weddings. On that visit. the reception area was full of wedding guests with others gathered outside the front door for a cigarette so we simply cancelled our reservation and carried on with our journey northwards because we could not face the hassle!

We would certainly stay there again but would think twice about a visit during a summer weekend to avoid the golfers and wedding guests.

Room Tip: Probably superior rooms are not worth the extra unless you want bathrobes.

“Fairly tired now and could be so much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We've stayed at this hotel many times over the last 8 years or so and our most recent trip was in January 2012.

It really does need a refurb now. The rooms are tired, the public areas a little old fashioned and quite frankly the hotel smells very odd due to the amount of cleaning fluid that has gone on to wring out the last few years of the carpet. The food is pretty basic, sort of old school pub style with too much fat on the menu and the decor in the eating places and the bar provides no inspiration

Its pretty good value though for a weekend and the Spa is lovely I have to say. Its in a wonderful country location. In addition the staff are pretty resourceful and friendly

One absolute no no to mention and that is a lack of WIFI outside the main lobby area. Also it costs a fortune to hook up to the internet. In a poor mobile reception area that's unforgivable

Decent basic hotel but it could be so much more

“So far all good”

My marketing team have orginized our annual Sales kick off for about 100 people at this hotel. Prior to arriving the business unit staff have been very professional and very helpful.

On arrival and inspection I have to say it is one of the best venues we have been at and we have been at a few. Public rooms are well laid out, spacious and light. Staff very helpful and attentive.

Food is to die and the menus choosen for us were interesting with good chioces for all tastes.

Bedrooms are great (just look at the picture). All in all I found the hotel to be of a high standard and well kept.

My ONLY GRIP is this technological age (I work for a software comapny) is the cost of Internet access. Marriott use iBAHN service and all rooms are hardwired. WIFI is available throughout the hotel but with internet charges at £6 an hour and £16 I will stick with my 3G dongle. Also to access WIFI you had to booked it on line (not enabled at reception). Not the end of the world but not convenient enough for me.

I can see this venue being on my shortlist for business and pleasure for sometime to come.

“AMAZING hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

I stayed here a couple of years ago with my dad when our house had a gas explosion. We stayed in the hotel for a few months and its amazing! The rooms were pretty basic but really lovely, the staff were really nice and always wanted to help. We had breakfast every morning at the hotel and it was soooo good, waffles and made to order egg and fish. We were staying at the hotel the same time as the Women's England Football team. The grounds to the hotel are amazing and the other facilities are very enjoyable. Hope to go back their for a special occasion in the future.

“Ok stay. But not many other options in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I've stayed here a few times, because there are no other real options in the area. The place is a little tired, kind of a stretch to call this a full Marriott.

Here are some quick notes for anyone staying for the first time - hope they help.

- No wireless internet in rooms (lobby only) – poor WiFi coverage anywhere else on the main floor lobby area.
- After logging in to internet in room, it does not allow you to use a different wireless device (mobile) in the lobby. What year is it???
- Wired internet in room is very slow – can’t support Skype one-way video. Skype audio is distorted.
- No bottled water provided in rooms. Small bottle of water costs 2.40 pounds in bar
- No executive lounge (for people with Marriott status - but you do get a free breakfast)
- Parking prices are rediculous
- There is a securlity gate for getting in and out of the parking lot, but this is just silly. The exit code is available on a sign in the lobby or you can pick up a slip of paper with the exit code. Or you can just follow the car in front of you while exiting. Not sure why they don't just get rid of this - it's only making it harder for honest people.
- Great fitness centre
- Windows in room can be opened
- There are some good running trails around, but the staff doesn't know anything about them. Just ask them where the canal is - then run the canal as far as you want (assuming it's not raining).
