“You can find better elsewhere!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

The rooms are clean and adequate, though our next to last day there the skylight in the bathroom ceiling broke and it was raining INSIDE the bathroom! When we told the owner he was totally complacent and apathetic about it. The food was homecooked and good, though they were very unaccomodating for my vegetarian diet so I ended up not eating very well at all. The animals are nice as is the pool and the view, but you are very far away from interesting things to do and the management is moody--we never knew if we were going to find them sweet or grumpy or just uninterested!

“The information about all the things to do was incorrect!!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2009

Although we had booked the place 6 months ago, they didn't expect us. They didn't speak english. And there was no information about anything to do on the property or in the area. Only the time we good have breakfast and dinner. The internet wasn't available, our teenagers didn't like that very much!! The horses were thin and the stables were poor. My daughter didn't want to go horseriding because she pitied the horses. The tenniscourt was only available after PAYING.
I counted the days that I could leave, although the surrouding was beautiful, the room for four persons was awful and very hot (no airco)

Hi
only now I read your review. Your comments are not correct.
It's not my fault if the storm takes away the skylight that we immediately replaced.
My horses are free to run in the middle of meadows. They have little fat and lots of muscle and climbed the mountains of Cilento. All horses in the world would want to live like mine.
I have the feeling that came to us without enthusiasm.
We are waiting for the next holiday, certainly more beautiful
Take care and GOD BLESSES.

“beautiful friendly place in a quiet countryside setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2009

me and my boyfriend stayed at il forno antico in june this year and were perfectly pleased with everything: nice clean rooms, wonderful food produced on the farm, huge swimming pool and super-friendly staff! there are lots of beautiful places to go for a walk, a bike ride, spend a day on the beach or explore local culture and history and I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to experience life "alla cilentana" :)

“Il Forno Antico: Southern Italy at its best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

We just got back from Southern Italy and had the most beautiful vacation at a resort we stayed at five years ago. Last visit we stayed only 5 days and promised ourselves that we would return to this most beautiful part of Italy. This year we stayed 12 days and could have stayed longer. The host and his wife have continued to develop this resort with the focus on having guests experience the culture and the natural surroundings like no other place we have ever stayed.

This resort is definitely for those who want to truly enjoy Italy. The host arranged for our group everything from boat excursions to day trips by bus to a beautiful evening of music in the facilitiy's small but accoustically wonderful multipurpose hall. All the meals were served al fresco under a beautiful portico with gorgeous views of the mountains, villages and sea. All the pasta was homemade as well as most of the dishes. Meals were simple but very traditional to Southern Italian cooking. Being on a farm, the resort has the advantage to fresh fruits and vegetables and farm-raised meats. Alfonso the head cook makes the best lasagne this side of heaven.

Rooms were ample in size, but the showers could have been a little larger. The new rooms by the pool and the new three-story structure that will have 18 additional rooms all have nice size bathrooms and showers. We were there during a terrible heat wave, but the air was dry and we brought along a battery operated fan to bring in the cool night air into our room. Since there is no air conditioning, a fan is a must in the summer when a heat wave can hit, like it did during our stay. When the heat wave which brought temperatures above 100 degrees was over, nights were actually chilly as we remembered it to be so in 2002.

The beaches and sea water made up for any heat problems. Take advantage of any boat excursions to the sea caves and secluded beaches along the Cilento Coast. Gelato and Italian ices also were a delicious help.

This may have been our second trip to the Cilento area which by the way is full of neat Greek and Roman history, but it won't be our last. Thanks Il Forno Antico, Aniello, Menola, Carmela, Christina, Caterina and of course Alfonso.
