I booked three rooms for one night at the Three Tuns Hotel for myself, my elderly parents and my son's girlfriend. We were travelling from North Wales to attend my son's pass out parade at nearby Bassingbourn Barracks the next day. We had two double (en suite) rooms and the single (shared bathroom, but only shared with one other room). We did not have too much time to explore the area, however a stroll around the village was very pleasant and we would have loved more time in such a pretty village and surroundings.
Our rooms were absolutely fine, I was lucky to have the four poster very pretty room. The village is quiet so traffic noise is very little. We ate in the restaurant that night and the food was of a good standard and value. My Dad totally over indulged in a massive liver and bacon casserole portion (his favourite!). Mum was the only one of us to order a pud and this was a huge slice of rich cheescake. Son's girlfriend had a huge serving of very plump sausages, mash and onion gravy. Needless to say we were not up for a huge breakfast, but we were offered a full choice by the very amenable breakfast chef, and he was very flexible in meeting all our individual choices.
I felt that this was a very pleasant place, with a lovely garden in which we would certainly have lingered, had the weather been good. Prices are amongst the most reasonable I found, especially as the location is so convenient for London and Cambridge.
The ONLY thing I would mention for prospective visitors is that, the heart of the building dating back to 1700's, the stairs are tricky for anyone with mobility difficulties. My Dad struggled a little, but managed with help. He would not have done so without help. However, once he sorted his feet and stick combo, he managed the spiral bits and the (one) low beam fine. It is a very short flight afterall.
We had a very pleasant stay, with friendly staff who showed real interest and wished us genuine best wishes for our 'Big Day'. I would not hesitate in staying at the Three Tuns Hotel again if I was visiting the area.
