Spent two weeks at this hotel late September early October. had our doubts after reading some of the reviews beforehand but our experience exceeded all expectations. The rooms are well appointed but be aware that if you book a ground floor room in some of the buildings you have to climb a stairway to get up to the ground floor at lobby level as some of the buildings are sloped. You need to examine the map of the complex before booking as some of the buildings are about ten minutes from the main restaurant complex. its worth paying extra to get a junior suite as they are in the best location with good views. All the rooms have great balconies. Buildings number 1.2 and 3 are good ones to select for location, view and overlooking the best beach. There are two beaches that are quiet small and are not private. you have to pay for beach loungers, the number of which are limited but the hotel has a pool next to the beach, slightly elevated, which has beach loungers and a restaurant. Swimming off the beach is very good, its more of a cove surrounded by trees on both sides, very picturesque. The quality of food at the hotel is good and varied. Special food requirements is no problem. This hotel has a convention centre and if there is a gala dinner for the participants make sure you eat out on that night, its bedlam, it would be wise to check this out on arrival. Staff were excellent and most helpful. Porto Petro is a quite little village with a number of good but expensive restaurants. The hotel has good tennis and sailing amenities and bike hire. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful spot with good service this place fits the bill.

I stayed three nights at the hotel in the end of September 2011 with my work. We where there on a conference but still had some time to explore the hotel area. The pools were nice and the beach was beautiful eventhough a bit small. Since we were there off season there were not many people staying at the hotel apart from us so the beach was not crowded. I can however imagine that it can get crowded during high season.

The room was nice and of goods size. The hotel area was huge and not very cozy. It reminded me of why I prefer smaller hotels.

We had almost all of our meals at the hotel and I must say that the breakfast was great, so much selection and freshly made eggs. The dinner buffé and the lunch buffé was however a big disapointment.

My previous review of this hotel included the following para:
The laundry service was slow. Left a shirt on Saturday morning and didn’t come back until Monday. I assumed this was because of Sunday. Left a shirt Tuesday morning and it still hadn’t arrived when we left. The hotel is looking for it and said they’d keep in touch.

The hotel emailed to say they couldn't find the shirt and that was it. I've since emailed several times to say that the shirt is clearly lost and so can they buy me a new one. It was only a polo shirt for about £40. They just ignore me now.

I realise that even in a real 5-star hotel sometimes things go wrong. But it is the way the hotel manages the mishap that reveals if they are truly 5-star. In this case the Blau Porto Petro is clearly lacking.

I'm not sure I really want to be sharing this gem of a place with so many of you ... but I had such a great holiday in Porto Petro that I couldn't let the bad reviews that have been written stand without giving our own experience.

We had booked a double room but on arrival were given a free upgrade to a suite for no reason at all! We were completly delighted and the suite itself was luxurious and spacious with an incredible view over the harbour. Breakfast each morning was superb, the pools and public spaces kept immaculately clean and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. Sunbeds both at the pools and on the beaches were plentiful, as were the pool towels.

I can only think that either the hotel has undergone a complete change of management in the last few weeks to achieve this transformation or, more likely, other visitors' unpleasant experiences resulted from travelling during school holidays when no doubt the hotel was fully booked and perhaps couldn't cope with the volume.

One comment I would make in response to a tripadvisor complaint regarding breakfast, is that surely it's the parents' responsibility to ensure children behave properly in a restaurant, and not that of the hotel staff?

We will definitely making a return trip and recommending this hotel to our friends and family.
