NH hotels are consistently known for their stylishness and reasonable price. The NH München Dornach has a stylish flair, but it is more sparse and maybe a bit more cheap feeling than other NH hotels we have stayed in. It seemed more like a generic business hotel.
The location is pretty far out of the center of town in the middle of a newly developed business center. That makes this a tough place for tourists. The train platform is about a four minute walk from the hotel, and it was about 15-20 minutes by train into the city center.
As my wife and I planned a very last minute excursion for Oktoberfest, the in-town hotel options were simply too expensive. That is the beauty of the NH Dornach - it was downright cheap in comparison (about 1/3 the price of other, less respectable hotels). So on the basis of quaility for value, this place was off the chart. On a standalone basis, I might not have been all that excited about it.
Our room was fairly small. The furniture felt a bit like it had been outfitted at Ikea - not bad, just not what I would describe as nice. Or overly comfortable. The door only did a moderate job of blocking out hallway noise. As we were close to the elevator, this was a touch annoying.
One plus is the availability of services and amenities. Both a restaurant and bar are available, as well as a small fitness center. There is plenty of parking on site. They have a few free spots in front, but I never saw one open during our two-night stay. The underground parking is EUR 8 a night. A reasonable price for Munich hotels based on my research.
The hotel hits the key elements - new, clean and cheap - so it is a decent option if you are in town for business. It just might not be the perfect place for tourists unwilling to sacrifice convenience to save a few Euro. If it were not for the great relative value, I probably would have only granted 3 out of 5.
