“Oh Definitely a must go again place!!! Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

What a beautiful, well thought of B&B, better than any hotel I have ever stayed in that costs 2 to 3 times as much! All I wanted and much more. Right down to the slightest detail. Breakfast was a huge menu of absolutely anything so it seemed, top class place, wonderful couple running it. Will be going back ! They couldn't have been more helpful !
Couldn't fit in here everything that I could say about it, go and see it for yourself!

Room Tip: The best B&B I have ever stayed in, everything needed and more besides!

“A nice b&b experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 February 2011

We picked the 'loft' room from the pictures we'd seen online. Its surprisingly spacious and boasts a great little en-suite with fantastic shower. It was quite nippy outside, but always warm in our room, especially the en-suite which had a towel rail radiator pumping out heat 24/7. I also liked the electric shutters on the velux windows, they turned the room totally dark.

The food was of good quality, with obvious pride taken in preparation. The choice was excellent.

The lady remembered certain details of what we liked individually or needed, making me certain she actually listened and was hot on customer service, something few small business owners believe in nowadays.

Nice to know the owners were on hand if they were needed, but not too obtrusive.

Everyday the cleaning up fairy paid our room a visit. Nice to come back to a clean room, no 'do not disturb' sign available though, so cleaning seemed to be compulsary lol

I drink a lot of cold drinks, so the cold bottled water in the fridge outside our room door was a nice touch.

The place itself has a couple of comfortable seating places, so your not confined to your room if you want to just sit and read or what the birds in the garden etc.

We got our room on a buy two nights, get one free deal, which made it very reasonable cost wise. We reconed we got a good £20-£25 worth of breakfast per day between us (if we had got the same eating out).

If I had to make suggestions on how the owners could improve, it would be these small points; 1, free wifi... glad it was free, would of hated to pay for it, they need to look into changing the slow hughes satellite internet (its ok for checking email, but browsing can be a nightmare and if you need to download an update for your laptop, forget it! and it must be costing them a fortune, its one of the most expensive sat internet out there.) 2, upgrade the tv's... the one in our room was a tiny 15 inch lcd with built in dvd and a seperate dvb-t freeview box - the screen had been damaged previously and had a visible mark when the set was on and the freeview box was an early type that didnt put the channels in order and was difficult to turn over. A trip to an electrical retailer with a few hundred quid would of get a larger modern set with built in freeview, an impressive tv set to match the otherwise beautiful room. 3, matress not the best, starting to creek and springs twanging, not the most comfortable... maybe time for new ones soon?? As I said, small points, but would make all the difference to putting the cherry back on the top of an otherwise lovely b&b.

“Top B&B - Best we've ever stayed in!”

We wanted a lux getaway, and we were not disappointed! So welcoming, warm & friendly, the owners were attentive without being OTT, and the breakfast... I didn't need to eat again the whole day (managed somehow though) - a better breakfast than you would find at most hotels, and the small touches such as bathrobes made it feel like a hotel, rather than a B&B. well worth all of the great reviews it has received - and well worth another visit asap!

“Beautiful B & B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2010

Delighted to recommend The Old School. Rooms were warm, spotless and comfortable. Breakfast delicious and the choice was terrific. Proprietors were very welcoming and friendly. Attention to detail was amazing even down to the torch on the keyring for dark walk back from the local pub!

“A real treat, we will be coming again and again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

The Old School is a beautiful B&B and you can see why it has won so many awards including the best B&B in England. The building is a 18th century former school and the views are breath-taking. The owners Kath and Malcolm made us feel so welcome from when we first drove into the driveway. They helped us with bags and tea and coffee was provided in the guest lounge – which was great after a long journey. We felt instantly relaxed and stress free. The rooms are very welcoming and there are lots of extra special touches.

The breakfasts were amazing using really fresh produce. The B&B is well located, there is a very good pub/restaurant just a short stroll through the village. The b&b is also ideally placed for exploring the coastline (Bamburgh castle is really impressive) and Alnwick and other market towns are only a short drive away. Kath and Malcolm know so much about the region. I can’t find fault – this place genuinely deserves the award Best B&B in England !
