We are recently back from 9 nights in West Cork and Kerry and for the first time in years decided to b&b it. We stayed in a total of five b&bs in all on our trip, with deBarra Lodge being our first port of call.
The house is absolutely beautiful and finished to the highest standard. Its divided in half, more or less, with the families accomadation on one side and the b&b on the other. The room we had for the two nights was lovely, with a balcony and views over the hills. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bedroom overall was a good size and again very nicely finished. The bathroom again was immaculate, with a very large shower.
The breakfast room is a lovely place to start the day with loads of natural light coming in. The breakfast itself was top notch too, a selection of juices, cereals, fresh fruit and fruit slices, homemade breads etc. You also get a cooked breakfast to order of whatever you want.
The hosts Sinead and Dan are lovely to deal with. We met Dan a couple of times and he was very helpful, giving us local maps and suggesting places to visit etc. But it was Sinead that we had most dealings with and it was an absolute pleasure to have her look after us. She is a natural host and couldnt have been more accomadating to myself and my wife. Seriously, if this is the face of Irish hospitality then we are definitely on to a winner. Their children, Cian and Ava were also lovely and not afraid to interact with guests but not in an intrusive way. Ava was a little under the weather when we stayed so I hope she is feeling better.
This b&b has been rated as a four star but I honestly think they are pushing towards five star status. The welcome and hospitality is certainly five star and imo so is the food and the house.
We enjoyed all the b&bs we stayed in on our trip and to be honest, didnt have a bad experience in any of them. deBarra Lodge was our favourite though. A perfect balance of top notch accomadation and hospitality.
We will definitely visit West Cork again as it is a beautiful part of the country, and when we do, our first place to book will be deBarra Lodge.
