“The manager was very helpful and the hotel was peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2009

We found the Ecodunas apartment hotel to be in a very peaceful location. The apartment had a view over the swimming pools and courtyard and was near the beach and river. It was equipped with a washine machine with built-in dryer, which was very useful. Out apartment could receive free wifi. The manager, Senor Manuel Guillen, was most helpful to us. The weather was abnormally cold for Spain and he organised the purchase of an electric heater for us. When one of us developed a leg problem, Senor Guillen gave us a lot of help in finding out where to purchase crutches, even though it was a Sunday over the Christmas period.

“Away from it all on the Costa Dorada”

We spent 5 days here in late August as we wanted a reasonably priced get-away-from it all weekend in the sun. It was hard to find much info or reviews on Ecodunas, or the area: it is certainly quiet and a very different world to Salou etc etc and is an area where most pursuits seem to be fishing, bird-watching and kite surfing; the apartments were modern, clean and had good airconditioning. Most overlook the pool (we started off in one that didn't, and due to an air-con problem we were promptly moved) and have a balcony with table and chairs. There are 2 reasonable size bedrooms with twin beds, and a double sofa bed in the living room - it is not a problem to accommodate 6 people. We were 4 adults & 2 kids aged 7 & 5 and it was perfect for kids; the pool is about 20m long and in a sort of "8" shape so it's narrow in the middle, and is about minimum 1m 20 deep; however there is also a paddling pool. Plenty of sun loungers, we didn't have a problem getting one altho' it was the end of August & many spanish were heading home. No other Brits there, mainly Spanish, a few French/Belgian etc. The food at the restaurant was good, tho' the hours are restricted (12-3 for lunch and 8-10 for dinner), and all the staff were helpful and efficient. It is about 10 mins walk to the very sandy beach; there are no facilities here - some beach bars at the road edge, then you walk along a boardwalk to the beach. You would need to take your own mat or lounger and windbreak etc. It is uncrowded and the sea is shallow and ideal for kids. Not many places to eat in Riumar; pizzeria "Bella Mia" a couple of streets away near to the (small & pricey) supermarket was very good, and there are a couple of other bars and restaurants in this stretch that we didn't go to. We also went to the Cafe Victoria on the road by the beach which was awful (food was off & we got bitten to bits) - not recommended at all. We were also recommended by another guest to go to the seafood buffet "La Gaya" which is about 1 mile up the road heading back to Deltebre - looks v unpreposessing & is only open for lunch, but the food was great - 18Euros for adults and less for kids; v restricted days of opening out of August. This area is a vast wetland and is flat, low-lying and for the latter part of our stay there were a lot of biting insects - go prepared! Would I go back? Yes, it's 1 hr drive from Reus airport, the pool and beach are lovely, and if you are happy to be in a place that has nothing going on in the way of entertainment then this is great for a quiet and family friendly holiday.

Ecodunas is a good appartment hotel with nice rooms, efficcient A/C and welcoming man at a front desk (unless you are coming late as we did, night porter did not know any english...). Riumar is the best place to be we have seen between Barcelona and Valencia, its quiet, easy village with a couple of good restaurants and places to visit.
As for the hotel, we asked for a change of a room second morning because of a small bath in the first one, and were satisfied immediately. Second appt. was almost perfect. Only thing I disliked at Ecodunas was a small relatively crowded pool, everything else worked allright.

“Excellent Ecodunas”

Ecodunas aparthotel was the perfect holiday we were looking for. We are a family with three children, aged 13 to 3. We wanted a quite relaxed place, and we got it. The apartments are very clean and well kept and with air conditioning and a washing machine. The pool and bathing area were never overcrowded. Infact, it was a relief not to have to be racing down in the morning to throw towels on loungers to keep them for the day. There are plenty of loungers and shade umbrelleas. The restauraunt is also very clean and is well run. The food was of the highest standard. While the portions are smaller than we are used to eating, they are still enough. The staff in the complex are very friendly and helpful. The manager, Arial, is always there when needed and runs the hotel exceptionally.
While Ecodunas was the perfect complex it is advisable to hire a car. We had flown to Barcelona and had a car hired which turned out a wise choice. The area of Riomar is really nice and quite. No bars pumping out loud music or no shouting. We always had a good nights uninterrupted sleep. The area is a bit far from the major towns for walking or cycling. The nearest town is deltebre which has a good supermarket and has atm machines but that is about it. When travelling by car to Riomar from the motorway, I advise going to the town of Amposta for the best road to Deltebre/Riomar. We tried taking roads through smaller towns like l`Aldea but either got lost or ended up on dirt roads heading to Riomar.
The Ecodunas aparthotel, the area of Riomar and the entire area of the Ebro delta are definately worth a holiday.
