We booked this as our 5 year old wanted to be a princess for the night. I was a little disappointed you don't get the sweeping drive and wow factor when you arrive as the best view of the building is at the back where you have to walk to see it. The grounds are super though. Check in was excellent, very attentive and came out to the car to get the bags... They won't hear of you helping! They called our daughter princess every time they greeted her which she loved.
The rooms are amazing, very ostentatious and over the top.. As you would hope in a castle!
There is no tea and coffee making facility in your room which was disappointing... And it's €7 to have it brought up!
We asked for an iron and board but they would not allow as they said it was a health and safety risk... But of course they could charge us for them to do it. I had quite a few items to do so this would have proved very costly so I went without.
Also they park the car for you and take your key and try to discourage you from going to your car and say they will bring it round to the front door for you instead... I only wanted some shoes out of the car and this seemed such a hassle. We felt very controlled, that it was their way or no way! I suppose I am too independent and should have tried to chill and let them wait on me!
The dinner was amazing and service was perfect, breakfast choice was limited and service slow.
The pool was the best we have ever used at a hotel. It was spotless, lots of towels and reclining seats and the whirlpool effect in the water was such fun.
Another thing to note, they have no chef on a Monday and therefore no lunch or evening meal is available at the hotel. We stayed sunday and monday night so this was a shame. The restaurant they recommended was half an hour drive and didn't take bookings til 7.30pm which with a 1 year old and a 5 year old wasn't very practical so we got bread, cheese and pate from the local super U and had a picnic in the room.
Overall a lovely stay with just a few niggles, which you don't expect when you are paying such a lot of money for a suite.
Would we go again... No not to stay but definately for lunch or dinner.
