My family and I ended up at the grand Melia due to a board meeting we were conducting on site. We all ended up in the red level ocean front suites, supposedly the best...
Check In - slow took over 15 minutes at 9 in the evening.
Room - (Red Level, Ocean front, 18-16). The room smelt damp and over the next couple of days we realized it was v damp. Paper would curl and gel tablets stuck together. The air con was incredibly noisy but ineffective. Bed was frankly horrible, it has as thick rubber bed bug sheet, just aweful to sleep on. After the first night we began to dread the night of getting into a damp, rubber sheeted bed. Our daughter was on the pull out bed which had the cheapest nastiest mattress. The room was dirty, our feet were filthy when walking in the room. The light fixtures were bent and worn out. The bathroom was tired be on the final night a white cockroach crawled out of the floor.
Food - get a car so you can get away from the appalling food, if you can get it. For some bizarre reason thy alternate which of the three restaurants is open each night. Food is average at best but really just poor. Oh and for breakfast it feels like camp or being on a cruise ship buffett.
Conference facilities - Tired, old uncomfortable seats, cold then hot. Catering, appalling.
Grounds - amazing, beautiful. Spotless, lovely with lots of cool lizards running around.
Staff - overall very helpful, very nice. They are let down by a substandard property.
Location. Middle of no where. Unless you like the feeling of being in prison get a car.
Our group was supposed to stay 7 nights. Once our meeting was done we all checked out to get away for couple of nights at a proper hotel. This is not a 4 star hotel, it is barely 3, closer to a 2. The worst thing by far are the damp musty rooms. Just avoid it.
