“Delicious meal and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We popped in here for dinner one evening whilst staying nearby and were very impressed with the standard of the food - especially when two courses were only £10.50! I had a delicious beef bourguignon with horseradish mashed potatoes and my boyfriend had venison - both of which were generous and very good quality. The puddings were exceptional and the staff very helpful - all in all very impressed.

“Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.”

Lovely room, tasteful decor and all the facilities. We ate in the bar which had a nice atmosphere with friendly staff. The service was a little slow (the restaurant was very busy) but that really didnt matter as the food was lovely, plenty of fresh veg and all piping hot. Breakfast was equally good, the best kippers we have had. All in all a great place and the location was a bonus, we had the dog with us (who was made welcome too) and we enjoyed walk around Warkworth Castle before breakfast. One to come back to.

“Rude service ruined what could have been a nice meal”

We went to the hotel to meet family for lunch as we had previously enjoyed some good food and a pleasant atmosphere at the hotel on other occasions. Unfortunately incredibly rude service and a total lack of manners totally ruined our visit to the restaurant. The food itself was tasty but I was appalled that a relatively minor mistake made by staff was not apologised for but dealt with in a heavy handed and aggressive manner. A simple apology would have meant we left content, instead I have no intention of ever returning.

“An average hotel with potential”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

On arrival the hotel exterior, lobby and bar areas looked very nice with Christmas decorations making it seem very seasonal and cosy. We were shown to our attic room but had to ask for info about breakfast times, late entry arrangements etc. There didn't seem to be any further info in our room about the hotel, restaurant or bar except for general info about the hotel chain's Christmas and New Year offers. Although the room was spacious and clean, there was paper peeling off the ceilings, signs of damp round the bathroom and some dated fixtures and fittings. The shower was particularly disappointing with very weak pressure. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable with nice bedding and the room was warm and well lit with a good number of ppts for charging phones etc. I personally felt the rooms were a little bit overpriced overall, given how visible some of the problems were.

Breakfast in the morning was good, and we were served by a friendly member of staff who also helped us check out. It was OK, but just lacked the attention to detail I would expect from the price.

“Friendly & comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Stayed for just one night in November - the main thing was that the heating was capable. We had two rooms, one double and one twin and we took 2 dogs though we ended up paying extra for these despite declaring these when we booked and thought we had paid in full up front. Still, I'm quibbling really.

Very comfortable bar with some decent malt whiskeys and wines - the menu looked good too but we had already eaten so didn't try it. There is also a restaurant.

Breakfast was very good, I tested them with poached eggs and they passed. Music was awful though - I love music but even I don't need it at breakfast. Actually I heard the music coming from the restaurant the previous evening - sounds as if they had borrowed a customer's MP3 player.

It's a good location and there are loads of pubs around too. We would go back (in fact my wife and daughter stayed there for a few nights in the summer)
