 Suggestions for weekend in Savannah

Would like to bring my husband into Savannah the weekend of Dec. 4th along w/another couple for his birthday. Since it will be the first time away from our 2 1/2 year old boy we would like some nightlife if possible. I do not want to rent a car. We enjoy walking around. Any help on a place to stay, places to eat, things to see--much appreciated. Thanks

We recently enjoyed Jazz'd Tapas Bar. They have live music most nights and the food is good. We only ordered 4 tapas, because we didn't want to be too stuffed, then walked to River Street and had a couple of cocktails. You can take your drinks "to go" in Savannah which was nice. We also had a very nice upscale meal at Vics, which is also on the Riverfront. During the day, I would recommend Bobby Davis of Explore Savannah for a walking tour - it is a private tour and very entertaining. We also toured the Juliette Gordon Lowe which is very nicely restored and furnished with family pieces throughout.

I recommend staying somewhere on Bay Street or River Street orThe Marshall House on Broughton to be near nightlife and restaurants. The Marriott is on the edge of the Historic District and a little further away than I like to be. The Westin is across the river and yes they have the water taxis so you need to take that in consideration if you were to stay there. If you like ghost stories and being in a group, do one of the pub crawls. It's fun to meet other people and also to hear the stories about the pubs.

We have many big chain hotels, several smaller, locally owned non chain hotels and several B&Bs which do you prefer? they are very different experiences.

Most of the walking night life is around Bull and Broughton, near City Market or on River street. Those three areas are all within a few blocks of each other. If you stay near them, you have no need for a car at night or during the day.
