".where can we buy"

You can get it at Freiburg station from a staffed counter (€ 2.--surcharge) or from a DB ticket machine.

"can it be bought in advance"

Yes, but there's no need for it.

" valid on Freiburg buses and trams"

No. It's valid on IRE, RE, RB and S trains trains only.(and on the buses between Ringsheim station and Europapark, of course)

Alternative:

1. if you want to start on a weekday before 9am

- 24 hours mini group ticket for the RVF area (EUR 22,40)

http://www.rvf.de/PDF/REGIO24.pdf

- as Europe-Park is not inside the RVF area you need the special add-on ticket "AnschlussKarte Europapark"

http://www.rvf.de/Europapark.php

adult EUR 4,60 return

child EUR 3,40 return

2. if you want to travel to Europa-Park on a Sa or Su or on a weekday past 9am

- Baden-Württemberg Ticket (EUR 28,00)

You will need only the version for 2 person.

.

Both options do cover the trams and buses in Freiburg.

or stick to your original plan and buy the Kombi-Ticket for 3 (EUR 155,40) plus a 24 hours mini group ticket for Freiburg (EUR 11,20) to cover the trams and buses there.

You can buy the Kombi-Ticket from the DB ticket machines at Freiburg. DB has even a leaflet on "how to buy from ticket machines" for this - albeit only in German.

Or spent the EUR 2,00 more and buy at the counter. You could do both of course e.g. a day in advance. Just take car that you select/ask for the right day of validity.
