 Is Egypt expensive?

Hi,

I am traveling with my husband to egypt next week for a 2 week holiday. We are going on a 4 night nile cruise, 3 nights in luxor and 7 nights in El Gouna. Does anyone know is it is expensive in these areas and how much money would be needed for a 2 weeks holiday.

Thanks,

G.

Hi G,

In short, then no, Egypt isn't expensive. At least not for a Dane like me.

You will find that El Gouna is more expensive than Luxor, specially concerning drinks.

Another thing that can put a large dent in your pocket is entrance fees to sites, but seeing that you are going on a cruise, I guess you have already bought a sightseeing package?

Eating and drinking in Luxor is fair priced, but again, drinks can be expensive.

I don't know how many tours you have or if you plan any tours, so if you could tell a little about your schedule, then it would be easier to come up with an amount to bring :-)

Hi there

We have never found Luxor to be too expensive - however it depends on where you eat and drink, with the hotels being that bit more expensive than the independent restaurants. Alcohol can be expensive, especially imported spirits and wine. Local beers are a fair price, as are soft drinks and fruit juices. Buying soft drinks and bottled water etc. from the small supermarkets is much cheaper than back here in the UK.

Hiya

I thought geneal spending was really cheap. A large bottle of water was about 60p, a can of coke was bet 10-30p, cocktails at the Sheraton were £6 :-), meals at the hotels ...Sheraton , Isis were quite cheap about £7-15. A horse/carriage ride for an hour was £1.Entry to the temple was about £8.

We took £100 with us and then used our card at the Mercure and Sheraton to withdraw Egyptian pounds when needed.

Thanks for your replies.

Louise, we are doing the cruise from luxor to aswan and stopping off on the different tourist spots on the way. I am unsure if entrance fees were included in he package.

When we travel back to luxor for 3 nights we d not have any tours planned. We have a hot air baloon ride booked for one of the days.

we then travel to El Gouna for a week and again we have no tours planned. We would like to go to Giza but that will depend on the distance and the price.

If your budget allows I would most certainly visit Cairo the museum is great, I could spend the whole day there and the pyramids have to be seen to be believed. Book through Egypt Air using Egypt as your home country we paid £35 return each from Luxor last year play around with days and times to get the best price. it's worth the price just to see the driving :)

If you need a guide/transport contact Real Life Egypt their prices are very competitive and they are very professional, you pay when you are picked up they made our trip really special.

Have a great holiday and don't forget to post a review when you get back.
