Transportation from Fes to Merzouga and then to Marrakech

Hi everyone,

My wife and I will visit Morocco in July. We plan to enter Morocco at Fes and then leave at Marrakech with visit to Sahara in Merzouga in the middle. We are now stuggling about the transportation from Fes to Merzouga and from Merzouga to Marrakech.

As we will leave Fes in the morning and join the Sahara trip in the afternoon, the overnight bus is out of our options. We have asked about hiring a car with driver but the lowest price we can get is 1600MAD. We wonder whether we can find a better bargain when we are in Fes.

From Merzouga to Marrakech, we originally planned to travel to Ouarzazate first and visit the Ait Benhaddou and then take the overnight Supratour bus from Ouarzazate to Marrakech. I don't know whether it's feasible as Ouarzazate seems quite far away from Merzouga. So, it really helps if any experts here can give advices to me about how to plan the transportation. Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi Paul,

I have no idea if there is a bus that leave for Merzouga in the morning! the only (recommended) bus leave for Merzouga at the evening.

You can hire a car and drive yourself, Driver is not needed; unless you have no idea about Moroccan drivers.

the good part of this options is (you'll pay about 35€ aday for the rental).

you will be asked to pay an extra payment in order to drop the car off in Marrakesh, and leave it ;till the company come to take it back to Fes.

From Merzouga to Marrakesh is kind of (Complicated) because there is no fexible BUS or connected Grand taxis, for example 'You'll have to change Grand taxis at more than 5 stations to arrive into Ouarzazate) which I doupt you want.

there is that option (Hiring a grand taxi for the whole way; that will cost you the same I guess.

besides of the grand taxi option, there is a rough bus from Erfoud to Ouarzazate (departe at 14!20 arrival at 22:20pm) which is really in bad conditions and I won't recommend it unless you found yourself stuck in nowhere.

Hi,

Your best option will be either hiring a car and drive yourself, or hire a car with a driver.

The ideal is to spend to first night in Erfoud, visit Rissani in the morning, relax by the pool after lunch, then get ready for the camel trek to the sahara desert camp in the afternoon to watch the sunset and spend the night in the camp.

The following day drive to Ouarzazate for overnight.

After breakfast, visit the nearby kasbahs including Ait beh Hadou, then drive to Marrakech through Tizi Ntichka pass.

Morocco Tailormade can go as low as 1400 Dirhams a day for an A/c car with an english spaking driver.

drop them a line at www.morocco-tailormade.com

Good luck

Hi fromdesert,

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I have 2 questions:

1) I'm not good at driving, so I really need to hire a car with driver. So, do you know the price from Fes to Merzouga?

2) Do you know the price to hire a grand taxi for the whole way from Merzouga to Ouarzazate? And the time needed to take the grand taxi from Merzouga to Ouarzazate?

Thanks again!

Paul,

I am looking through Trip Advisor trying to figure out the price of a Grand Taxi from Merzouga to Fez and found your post. Would you mind sharing what you ended up paying during your trip in July? Thank you!

If you are going to be in Morocco, you should certainly contact Enjoy Morocco Tours and speak with Mohammed. We used his company for our two week tour there and could not have been more pleased. I am fortunate to experience travel all over the world and I cannot think of a service that I enjoyed more. Really cannot say enough ... do not rent a car or take a train or use any other company. We paid a reasonable rate, but I can tell you that if they charged me double the fare I would gladly pay that amount to repeat the excellent experience that we had while touring.

To stilloutthere

- it can be different from people to people so you cannot say "don´t do that". For example me - I should never never never go with some tour company.

I go every time on myself and enjoy my travel 100% and have so much experience.

regards
