Hiya
I'm picking up a car on Anzac Day and was wondering if the shops (Countdown, local shops etc.,) will be open all day? Need to pick up a few things before embarking on our journey. :)

Edited: 29 March 2010, 15:01Shops must be closed until 1pm unless exempted under the shop trading act. These are shops whose main purpose is to provide essential supplies in quantities which people in the area or travelling through may need, shops providing food ready to eat, souvenir and duty free shops, pharmacies, and shops in premises where there are bona fide shows or exhibitions. Supermarkets are not likely to be open until 1pm. Our local supermarket does not usually stock chillybins although some might - The Warehouse would be a good place to try - after 1pm.
The supermarkets will have lightweight chilly bags more suitable for getting the icecream and frozen peas home. The best range at the best price for chilli bins will be The Warehouse. Mitre 10, Briscoes. These will all have car parks. Where are you starting from?

The easiest place to pick up things like chilli bins then will be The Warehouse in Blenheim road which is one of the main streets heading out of town. As you come out of there head west on Blenheim Rd a few hundred meters, taking a right at the lights and going down Hanson lane. There is a Countdown at the next set of lights at the start of Riccarton Road..
Alternativly from Litchfield Street turn onto Columbo Street and head Soth. (coming from Avis/hertz etc it is "right" at the first lights.) The South City Choping centre has a Warehouse and a New World supermarket.,
