I'm travelling around the South island for 2 weeks in July (4th-18th) with two other people. We are renting a car and our plan is as follows:
2 nights in Christchurch
2nights in Mount Cook
5 nights in Queenstown
1 night in Milford Sound (doing the kayak trip)
3 nights in Dunedin
1 night in Christchurch.
I think the plan is to try and do some white water rafting- but is that possible in Winter? And where would be good? And horse riding in Dunedin and some sort of adventure fun in Queenstown, maybe a swing or something (I'm not brave enough for a bungy!).
Just wondered if anyone has experience of using Milford lodge because that is the only one that seemed less official and have booked the dorm bed and sunrise kayak option so just wondered if anyone has tried that.
Also- trying to sort cars out- got a quote for a Hyundai Getz for £300 for two weeks including no excess for insurance- is that a good price? Will it be an ok winter car? Should I get snow chains?
Am definitely planning on bringing thermals but any other advice/suggestions of fun activities in any of our locations would be hugely appreciated!
