New Years Day B'fast/Bruch rec needed

Hi all.

We'll be in Canberra for NYE and depending on what time we wake up the following morning, will need breakfast or brunch. We are staying at the Hyatt and don't fancy a hotel buffet unless there is nothing else suitable.

The aim is to head to the National Gallery after we eat, so anything in the gallery vicinity is fine as well.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Staying at the Hyatt puts you in a great spot for the cafe precincts of Manuka and Kingston (just the other side of parliament house and a short drive from where you are staying) which are an iconic Canberra spot for brunching. Alternatively, you won't be far from the Yacht Club so you could check with them (see http://www.cscc.com.au/yacht-club-canberra.php) if they are open NYD - I can't imagine they wouldn't be.

There are at least half a dozen beaut places around Green Square (off Jardine Street) in Kingston that are excellent for breakfast.

Kingston's not quite within easy walking distance of the Hyatt, but not far either. The ANG is between the Hyatt and Kingston.

The ANG also has a cafe, but it's not the ideal choice for a lazy breakfast.

I wouldn't be surprised if many were closed New Years Day- Wherever you decide (my favourite would be Pizzaz at Kingston) call before you go.

Yep,, i'd thought of Silo bakery which isn't bad but as it is closed Sundays i think it will also be closed NY day.

From the Hyatt we often eat in Kingston...for NYD it might be suck it and see,

If all else fails then there's a MacDonalds in the Manuka/Kingston area (Manuka specifically) which I would guess will be open. Attractions near the gallery which have cafes include the National Library and the Portrait Gallery. Bookplate at the library is open from 11am on public holidays (only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Good Friday). I'm not sure about the Portrait Gallery but if the cafe is open at a time to suit you that might be a good option as it's right next door to the National Gallery.

SIlo would be a good choice, but they usually close from Xmas until late January

Thansk everyone.

It looks like alot of places will be closed. We might just take a drive around the Kingston area and see if anything *is* open. :)
