Hi
We are staying at the Broadway Park from 14th April for a week so when I come back I will tell you what it's like.
If you go to the WA Shearings web site and put in for a self drive holiday to Isle of Wight it gives you two hotels and one of them is the Broadway Park. They have photos on show and it looks quite nice.
Will keep you posted. Cheryl (bearshead16@ntlworld.com)
Hi, Have just come back from I.O.W, Broadway Park Hotel and thought you might like to know how we enjoyed it. I can only comment on the room we had. The room we had was 312 in the new extension and the room was a good size and lovely and light with big windows. The bed was comfortable (which makes a change)matching furniture and curtains and overlay to match on the bed. The tv had one of those table top aireals which was not wonderful but after all we are not on holiday to watch tv. There was tea/coffee in the room. The food although basic was very good. There was about 4 starters to choose from and 4 main courses to choose from and about 3 sweets. And if you really didn't like any of the mains they would make you a salad and somebody had that near our table and it looked really lovely. There was always fresh fruit or a yogurt if you were stuck for a sweet or cheese and crackers. The breakfasts are the same, a fair number of choices. The service is quick too. We sat on table 9 and you keep the same table all the week. As I said no frills food but good basic roasts and fish dishes. The only thing I nit picked was that there was no grab rail in the shower which was over the bath. Our chambermaid was really good, you could have eaten your dinner off the bathroom floor. They have a swimming pool but it was closed as it was too cold, it is outside. They had entertainment every night and bingo which we hate. I don't know your age group, but the entertainment was directed towards an older age group. We had a drink in the lounge the entertainment not to our liking. But whatever grabs you as they say. The meal times are good too, breakfast is from 8am to 9.30am and dinner is from 6.30pm to 8pm which gives you a good day out if want to explore. The lift might give you a bit of a problem if you don't like small lifts. We had to take two lifts with a short walk in between each lift. They are tiny, they only hold three people at most and if it wasn't for my bad knee and the fact that we were at the top of the hotel, I would have walked up. When you arrive Melville Street runs across the crossroads and our sat nav wanted us to turn right into Melville Street, but actually it is left. They are building new houses there. There is no actual sign saying that the hotel is down this road, but it is at the bottom. It used to be a manor house and it's huge without the extensions they have had made. I don't know what the rooms were like in the main house. Apparently the original owner of Wallace Arnold coach tours used to own the house and his daughter continued to live there after his death. I hope you enjoy your stay. It certainly is a good base from which to enjoy the I.O.W. If you can choose go from Lymington to Yarmouth it's a nicer arrival port. But that is being ultra picky. Let me know what you think. All the best, Cheryl.
Just returned from 5 day break to the Broadway Park courtesy of WA Shearings and agree with labrador16's excellent report.
The only thing I can really add is that the hotel is looking a little jaded in places (threadbare carpets for example) but it is very comfortable with well furnished public rooms, sizeable garden areas with a resident red squirrel.
Officially it's rated at 3 star but I'd give it 5 because of the fantastic value for money offered from Shearings. It cost a total of £300 for my wife and I, and for that we got breakfast, lunch refreshment pack, dinner with a complimentary glass of wine, FREE bar from 6 - 11pm, a daily paper of your choice and 3 included excursions (our coach driver was very knowledgeable and full of useful information about the IOW). Mustn't forget to mention the entertainment - OK if you like Bingo and nightclub singers.
All in all we really enjoyed our break and can thoroughly recommend it.
we went to the broadway park with shearings on a special offer all inclusive 5 days with shearings.
we are aged 60 and my partner is disabled. because they knew this in advance we were given a floor level with reception and our bath had grab bars fitted. it is only 10 mins walk to the beach and mostly downhill.first time we couldnt find a taxi and pushing him back up wasn't easy then reception gave us a taxi phone no. and that was a problem solved.there were several younger guests there not all oldies like us ! the first night there was an impressionist on who made us all laugh and laugh and the rest of the entertainment was quite good. i know a lot of people don't like bingo but there were a couple of comfy quiet lounges for them and it was only on for the first half hour. it was cheap for books and some extra spends if you won. the food and the staff were excellent compared to other shearing hotels i have been in. our room was fine too. in fact for what we paid the whole trip was very good value.
