Does anyone know anything about the timeshare apartments at Brunson Castle, Dailly? We are considering a week there in June. Is there much to do and see nearby? It looks quite remote.

Hi, I'll have more time to answer this better tomorrow, but meanwhile have a look at the links on the left of this page which will provide a map for getting your bearings, and also details and reviews of things to do and places to visit. Yes Brunston is in the Ayrshire countryside but providing you have a car it won't take you long to get along to the beach, or a nearby village pub, or some historic site, or most notably Culzean Castle and Country Park. Its the jewel in the crown of the National Trust for Scotland and if you are a member of the National Trust entry is free. All the details of this and more can be accessed through the links to the left. See if there is anything you fancy and ask away if you need more info.
cheers

We stayed there a couple of years ago and enjoyed it. My parents go there about once a year too.
I would say you do need a car. You can walk to Dailly (15mins) where the shops are, but there's not a whole lot to do there although there's probably public transport links (someone more local should be able to fill in that bit!).
There's plenty to do in the area and the staff will give you plenty of advice and brochures. All the Robert Burns sights are nearby if you're interested in that. And the scenery is fantastic.
There's a golf club next to the apartments and they do bar food which is fine enough. I think they have entertainment on there too in peak season, but we were there in March. We also managed to get a takeaway delivered to our apartment. And apparantly the restaurant in Dailly will transport you if you ring up and ask so no one has to be designated driver that night! You probably already know there's a swimming pool there too.
So, yeah I think it's a good base for exploring the Ayr area, but you will need a car to make the best of it.
Thanks you both. That's really helpful. CapnHef, what were the apartments like?
They were very clean, fairly modern and light and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment and everything was comfy enough. There's also plenty of parking space with many of the chalets having their own space outside the door. We had a 2 bedroomed house even though it was just the two of us which was great as there was plenty room to spread out.
Really don't have any complaints about the place! I hope you enjoy your trip.
Thank you very much!
Wondering what your experience was like at the timeshare as we will be going in December. And, what travel points of interest you would recommend.
Thank you.
We very much enjoyed our week there. We did have wonderful weather, which I am sure helped. The lodges are clean and well appointed, the staff very friendly and helpful. We didn't use the restaurant at the nearby golf club. They meals didn't look very special.
Ron does rambles in the area, and we very much enjoyed the two we did, together with some suggested walks that we did on our own.
The village is small. Everyone knew us within a day. There's nothing of interest in Girvan except for the supermarket.
We had a lovely full day at Culzeal Castle (Scottish National Trust). Be sure to check out the Electric Brae, just a little further out, and a good farmshop - Dowhill (I think) just outside Girvan. On another day, we drove to Logan and Port Logan where there's an impressive botanical garden. There's also a very pretty tiny seaside village, the name of which I can't recall, but the staff at Brunston Castle will urge you to go there.
Also there's lots of Burns locations, but we passed on those.
We had a wonderful meal at Wildings in Maidens, and would recommend this very highly. You should book well in advance.
It's a place we'd go to again, but, for us, it's a two day journey each way. Enjoy!
Just to add to that good advice... I was going to mention the botanical gardens, but I think they close in October.
The pretty village might be Portpartick.
There is a closer pretty village at Dunure, with Castle and tiny harbour and good Inn. You pass the Electric Brae to get there. (Google for details / explanation of Brae. BTW, it doesn't work so well in an automatic car!)
Thanks you for the information... we look forward to the visit that we will have in December and hope that the suggestions provided will be available at that time!
Thanks for the information on the area closer to Brunston...
