What to wear in London in June?

We will be visiting London for the first time in early June and are looking for some insight into the weather and appropriate wardrobe. Would shorts and sandals be fine or should it be lightweight pants and long sleeves? Light jacket? HELP!!! Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

DON'T forget your umbrella and sweater but t-shirts and combats would be fine!

Hi there.

The one word you didn't want to hear.....layers!

I like June as the weather usually doesn't get too hot but it could be anything from 60 to 80 degrees so be warned, those legs could get awfully chilly!!

Have a great trip whatever you pack.

Dear Monks-in-Miami,

I agree with Adam re layers, because of the variable weather in London. I have frozen in June and I have sweltered. London is a rather formal city. Shorts and sandals would be ok in the parks, but you might feel a bit out of place elsewhere if you dress very casually. Some of what you want to pack depends on where you intend to visit. I usually dress in dark colors, but take cotton slacks, shirts, a cardigan sweater, a light jacket or blazer and always my umbrella!

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Bring all of those items! With the forever changing weather here, you'll probably find you'll need them all at some stage. June has typically quite warm weather and whilst you'll find uses for shorts and sandals, air-conditioned shopping centres/restaurants etc. may require something light which you can put on top too. I usually find I can get away with a t-shirt and lightweight pants around that time of year though, but like I said, you can never be too prepared!

Thanks to all for your input. I imagine that the weather there in June will be like our "winters" here in Miami, perhaps lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s. I'll use that as a guideline I guess.

Thanks again.

I am going to be in London the same time as you are,and i agree with many of you here. My aunt advises me to bring layers of clothes and of course, the umbrella will come in handy...

it is hard for us to say really as what is hot hot to us is most likely mild to you coming from miami. I guess it depends on how much you feel the cold etc but as everyone else said if you bring layers and some different things you should be ok as some days in june and july here can still be wet windy and cool enough for a jacket etc.

Shorts & sandals possibly a little optimistic - you may get to wear them once. If the shorts are knee length you may find them more, as the longer coverage will see you through many days.

Light layers - as previous posts.

The peasant tiered skirt (especially in white) & esperdrilles is THE look in London right now - check out the Gap web site & that's the general London look.

No matter what style, you MUST have comfiest shoes for walking round town.

Having lived in London for several years and spent a lot of time in Arizona I can tell you that London in June 'can' get pretty warm! Also, being a big city it has its own climate insofar that when it is hot it tends hang around. As mentioned, layers are a good idea but if you think Florida gets hot, try the tube around 5pm on any summers day!

Yep, layers are the way to go. The average high for June in London just creeps above 70 F by the end of the month and a half-rainy, half-sunny day is common. Of course, a heat wave could push things well into the 80s, but that's the exception, not the rule.

If you plan to do a lot of sightseeing, sandals may be more trouble than they're worth. Lots of concrete and cobblestone can lead to blisters without comfortable, broken-in walking shoes. Sandals for short outings are fine, but unless you've worn them while walking a few miles other than the beach, I wouldn't rely "solely" on them. Sorry, couldn't resist.
