Have heard that there is all kinds of gang activity and violence in Nogales, is any of that happening in pp. Has that affected the safety of the drive down?

The "gang activity" should be described differently. It is people from one drug cartel fighting people from other drug cartels, and the police. It is not gangs like urban gangs. It continues in Nogales, though little has been reported recently, and most border cities. So far it has not affected Puerto Penasco.

I have also been told that there has been a lot of crimes targeting tourists, including kidnapping. Is this true? We have a reservation for end of June at the Mayan Palace and my husband wants to cancel because of safety concerns.

Most of gang activities are around Nogales, Tijuana and Juares as far as I know. I could be wrong, but we're about to find out. WE're leaving this Friday. I think the rewards out-weigh the risk.

Ditto on the above poster's last comment. PP is out in the middle of nowhere and the town is very, very small. Those 2 things make it a great place to visit a beach destination w/o traffic.

I can't imagine drug cartels or gangs of the urban kind in PP!

We have driven down there five times in the last two months and have never encountered a problem. We find Rocky Point to be very friendly and the people very polite. ROCKY POINT should not be confused with border towns and hopefully it's location away from these border towns will never change. Obey the speed limits in kilometers and observe the ALTO signs and you should not have any problems.

Is it a well traveled road? Highway? We are driving down on April 10 to Rocky point. Any other advice?
