There are currently no ferries from Florida to Nassau.

The Discovery Cruise line goes to Freeport (GBI), but that is nearlyy 100 miles north, and there's no connecting ferry service except the mailboat (which I don't recomment as it only runs 2x a week and takes 9 hours each way).

You might look into the Imperial Majesty Cruiseship. They sometimes allow you to get off and back on another ship, depending on occupancy.

had the same question, just saw this online. i know nothing about it, but was researching the same...

Fast ferries are presenting new options to Bahamas-bound travelers this year, as a company has begun service between Miami and Nassau and another is planning inter-island trips starting in July.

The Miami-Nassau service, operated by Bay Ferries of Prince Edward Island, Canada, uses a 300-foot catamaran called the Cat, which makes a five-hour run from Miami to Nassau every day except Wednesday. The ferry, which sails in summer between Maine and Nova Scotia and will be replaced by a sister ship, carries 750 passengers and travels up to 50 miles an hour. It leaves the Port of Miami at 9 A.M., arriving at Nassau at 2 P.M.; the return trip leaves Nassau at 4:30 and arrives at 9:30 P.M.

There is a casino on board with slot machines, blackjack and roulette. Other diversions include bingo, movies and a duty-free shop. There is also a snack bar.

Round-trip fares are $119, $59 for ages 3 to 12; one-way tickets are $69 and $39. A total of $20 United States and Bahamas departure taxes is extra. For reservations: (888) 635-9228.

How old it that "news".. the cat has been here and failed.

There is always some talk about doing this, but until the government creates a new immigration building that can process the ferry passengers, this won't happen in Nassau.

The current Port authority immigration office can't handle this type of passenger process.

There is no "ferry" serivce to speak of. Imperial Majesty runs an overnight cruise to Nassau out of Fort Lauderdale. (Check the reviews) Discovery cruises runs to Freeport. Some of the major cruise lines run short cruises from various points in Florida to the Bahamas. Otherwise, you will have to fly.

There is another "new" ship that does a 3-day cruise but will allow you to get off. I saw it in port last time I was there last month and it kind of looks like a pile of poop, but if you just want to get over there and don't care, I think it is pretty cheap.

Our family of 4 just took Royal Caribbean Majesty Of The Seas to Nassau and debarked there for a 6 nights stay and flew home. The cruise was SO SO cheap that it made sense....it was a 3 night cruise and Nassau was the second stop on the second day...so all we missed was the night back to Miami....BUT the cruise only cost $149/pp in the first place. You have to tell Royal Caribbean that you are going to do this as they have some VERY minor paper work they have to put together for you....but you MUST arrange this with the cruise line in advance as you can't just decide to take your luggage and debark with it once there. I made all arrangements including reservations only 1 week in advance....so it's that easy to do.
