 Airport transfer or private taxi?

I know that the Jewel provides airport transfers but from reading some reviews, I think we'd enjoy the hour + ride much more by taxi. I'm sure the prices are jacked up if we were to just approach someone at the airport, plus, I dont want to end up getting ripped off etc. Any idea on what our other options are to take a taxi instead of a bus that's going to be full of tourist and stopping at other resorts etc? Plus, I doubt we'd have patience to wait 20 mins for people to get back on the bus after the rest stop.

What were your experiences ???

1. Re: Airport transfer or private taxi?

First, private transfers are easy to arrangeeither in advance or at the airport on arrival in Jamaica. Look for the price to be in the $US120 dollar range for 1 to 4 people (one way).

Second, based on my experience, the bus stops for a rest stop only about half the time. As to a stop at other resorts, that also happens only about half the time and for me it has never been more than 1 hotel. In both cases it depends on exactly who is on a given bus.

I always use the included bus transfer when going to my all inclusive. As I see it, I have paid for the transfer so why pay again? For what it costs for the private transfer I can almost pay for a full day of touring the island, lots of T-shirts, several pounds of Blue Mt. Coffee, etc.

Hi Blue G

Ask http://reggae-tours.com/ They are in Montego Bay. You can choose to travel in style, if you want to arrive in style as they have a fleet of vehicles to choose from. You can pay in advance so that you do not have to worry about cash when you arrive. Ask for drinks to be on the vehicle when you arrive, they will have them.

Enjoy your trip.

Regards,

1november.

Thanks to both of you. I'll look into it but Vinnie, you're probably right. It shouldn't be that bad if we just get on the bus... Just didn't want delays waiting on everyone I guess. Husband is from Ja so maybe one of his friends can pick us up. We'll see. Not looking to pay 120 one way or anything in that vicinity when we techincally are paying for the hotel that includes the transfer.

Thanks again.

We use Reggae tours. For round trip to The Jewel it is $162.00, one way it is only $86.00.

Taking the bus isn't all that bad either on one trip we were the only ones. It all depends on when the plane arrives and how many people they are expecting.

Yes, it may delay you to have to stop at other guests hotels but it gives you a chance to get a little glimpse of their hotel, being a nosy one, that is fine with me!

If it is included in your hotel cost, seems like u should just take their transport, won't cost you anything more.

Just remember to tip the driver, have seen people get off the transport and walk right by the driver, dragging their bag behind them.

That's not nice.

Have a great trip!

7. Re: Airport transfer or private taxi?

We have taken a private transfer to Ocho Rios last year and loved it. As soon as we had our luggage we were on our way, no waiting for 30 plus people to get on the bus. We did stop at a local service station for some refreshments and snacks then we were on our way. Our driver was very informative and told us all about the area we were traveling through, he answered any and all questions we had. We were at our resort a full hour before the charter bus and checked in. (no waiting in line while all 30 plus people checked in). I have taken both ways (charter bus and private driver) I prefer the private driver.

They used to run a flight from Mobay to Boscobal for about $100.00 per person. Have they stopped doing this?

9. Re: Airport transfer or private taxi?

I think we should be fine with the hotel shuttle. The only thing is we'll be leaving super early the day of our return, as our return flight is at 10:15am. I wish we had a later flight back in but there are no other non stop options back.

Any ideas on what the procedure is the day of? I assume it involves leaving the hotel prior to 6 am.. A lot of waiting in the airport.
