We will be in Ochi late May for a week and wanted to know what the best day of the week is to visit the falls?
We want to explore on our own (no tour) when its the least busy.. No busloads of cruise ship tourist etc... ?

Interested in Ocho Rios?
We'll send you updates with the latest deals, reviews and articles for Ocho Rios each week.
Hi Blue G.
Typically there are no cruise ships on Friday or Saturday. That said, the best way to avoid any crowds is to go fairly late in the afternoon... If you show up at Dunns about 3:00 pm there will be virtually no one there and even if there is a ship in port the crowds will be gone...
Blessings and respect.

These are some helpful answers. We really want to do Dunn's River Falls as well, but reports of crowds and vendor hassles are so numerous that we've tentatively marked it off our list. Are the vendors less numerous later in the day as well? Any disadvantage to going late in the day?
The entire place gets much quieter after about 2:30 pm.... The vendors calm down as well. You can completely avoid the vendors though by simply NOT letting them tell you that you 'have' to take the path through the craft market.... Walk out the road you came in on and you'll avoid the market. Someone will likely try and tell you that you 'have' to go the other way but it's not true.
I don't think there are any disadvantages to going later, just quieter.
Blessings and respect.

Just some other info, it's $20US per person, they have lockers for rent, I think it was $6. Anything you wear or carry will get wet. Unless you need help climbing, avoid the "guides" and go it own your own, at your own pace. Wear water shoes, they do rent them and sell them there, but if you can bring your own.
As Steve said, you can easily bypass the vendor trap, they were hanging over the fence to get you to take a look. It's not that bad and certianly not a reason to not go. Cold Stripes are $4 :-)
Thanks guys!
Someone once said cruise ships don't dock on Sundays.. But maybe they were wrong. The idea to go later in the afternoon is a good one. We were thinking early am before people get there but others are probably thinging the same thing.
We don't plan to carry anything that can't get wet and have a small waterproof pouch for other things, plus a water proof camera and Teva water shoes. We won't be using their lockers, shoes or guides. Definetly no guide or human chains!!! No offense to anyone but it doesn't look fun at all and they all look ridiculous yelling out ya man.. SMH!
Thanks for the tip on avoiding the vendors. Planning to take a taxi from the Jewel on our own.. Any ideas on what a decent price is or tips or where to get them?
You can get a taxi right in the Jewel parking lot...
We paid $30 round trip in December.
Blessings and respect.

Don't cross Dunn's River Falls off your list - it's a MUST see, soo beautiful! It's the experience I will never forget. We did take a full blown tour with snorkeling, food and drinks, catamaran, etc., but of course you don't have to do it, eventhough it was great! Pick the times as suggested and put it at the top of your list, you won't regret it...how often do you get a shot at climbing a natural 600 feet, one of the best in the world, one of the few that directly end up in a sea, waterfalls ? :)
Enjoy!
Steve, thanks for your many responses! I guess 30 isn't that bad... We'll see how it goes.
Regina, definetly going. No doubts about it. Waterfalls are my favorite to photograph and its something I have to experience. Just wanted to experience it with as less people intruding as possible. Is the pic in your profile on that you took or is it one of the internet. Noane is in your pic! Gorgeous! The photographer in me is so excited!
No problem !
Here's some photos I took one of the times we went at about 3:00 pm...
