Coral Sol de Plata - anyone back yet?

Looking at booking this property, but have never been to Dominican before. Is it worth trying? How far from the airport would it be? Safe food and water? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Destination Expert   What's this?
for Puerto Plata, Sosua

This resort just reopend this week (old Breezes). It is in the perfect location to enjoy Sosua and Cabarete both towns with very nice big beaches, lots of shops, restaurants and bars. The resort used to and probably still will run a shuttle multiple times a day to both towns. The resort itself has a very nice beach as well.

It is about 15 min from the aiport.

I stayed her quite a few years ago when it was under the breezes name. It was a good affordable hotel. The rooms are in need of renovations but everything else was good. The food was good and lots of premium brands. The beach was nice but rough, it's red flag 80% of the time. It's in a great location with free shuttle to sousa and cabarete ( which are a must to visit)... If this is your st time to the diminican i may try a different resort thoguh, especailly with this one just opening back up. If you are wanting the north coast i would suggest gran vantana, oasis marien, iberostar costa dorada or any of the riu's. All will be must better. if it's b/c coral sol de plata is so much cheaper then the others then it will be worth it, but as your first visit you may be a bit disapointed in it.

hi i went when in feb 2009 when it was named under breezes , it was my first time to dom and i loved it there ,in fact i cant wait to be going back in feb 2011 , the staff there were the nicest people you could meet if you wanted anything they would get it for you , i will say the sea is very rough but it was lots of fun but not suitable for young children . The pool there is out of this world i was in there every day had no problem with sunbeds and the hotel was full .the food is good loads of choice even for the fussy eatters ,very clean ...the entertainment staff made my holiday they are awesome they go from morning to night and they put so much effort into their shows they work really hard ,awesome........the rooms are good but i only used it to sleep and wash and dress apart from that i was out in the resort .they have a number of bars there and there were some shops on site ....x

YES, it's the old Breezes resort. I stayed at this resort a few times and loved it.

We have a time share with the Oasis group (Oasis Marien )

We have just been contacted re the Coral Sol de Plata. Oasis has taken over the hotel as well as the Costa Caribe in Juan Dolio and two self catering facilities in Bavaro and Samana.

The Oasis group is one of the largest groups in Spain and i am sure they will get everything right as they have already dine at the Oasis Marien

WE are planning to go to Caberete or to Samana

I have just returned from a week stay at Coral Sol de Plata (Dec 29 to Jan5th) This resort just reopened under this name was Breezes before.

The resort is worth trying. It's 20 minutes from the airport. The beach is nice but very rough I don't think it's suitable for kids but the pool is amazing. All restaurants were open and the food better than some Dominique resorts I've been to. The service was impeciable, They wanted to make sure you were happy at all times. Room pretty good. nice and clean. No issues. if more information needed I'm mustang1995.

thinking of booking for Feb 28th - family of 4 - two boys aged 11 and 13 - previous reviews when it was Breezes showed a trapeze and soccer field and games area - do they still have these? Also, is there organized activites for the kids?

Hey Mustang....thanks for your post it has made me feel allot better about the trip we are taking on January 26th out of Toronto, can you please provide me more information about the rooms and more specifically location to pool, perhaps you remember what building number that would be as I would like to be close to the pool and wanted to call the resort before hand to try to arrange that. How were the rooms so of the other reviews had mentioned out-dated rooms, no alarm clock...no remote for the TV...no mini fridge in room and TV was fuzzy and not working...that kind of thing...your comments would be much appreciated
