 Cameleon V. Jibacoa

Hi all

Has anyone stayed at this resort lately? I am looking for a cheap vaca for four of us and can't seem to find out much about this place. Deals are starting to show up on the web sites. Leaving from Halifax.

Hi Eastern Islanders,

I booked 2 of us from Halifax today. Got an incredible deal, I thought. When I looked at the pics and read the reviews (some of the most positive I have ever seen for a resort) I was decided. There are more reviews and pics on Debbies Carribean Review site.

We are leaving March 20th from Halifax and with the flight times we actually get 8 full days there, the check out time is actually the morning after we leave, so we get to keep our room all of our last day there, which is not usual.

I have stayed at 4* and up in Varadero the last two years and neither of them had such glowing reviews. We really needed to keep the budget in mind this year as we are in the middle of building a house but we really needed a vacation. So we had to go as cheap as possible. The Cameleon really seems to fit the bill.

Please be aware that this resort is not in Varadero, but half way between Varadero and Havana, there is only one other resort in this area.

Maybe we will see you there, we are a couple from Moncton in our early 40s.

My husband and I stayed at Breezes Jibacco last year and loved it. We went there on a recommendation of a friend who had been there twice. We were so glad we went with their advice. Great Food. Excellent Snorkeling and the beach grill was really nice. We met people there that had been there 5 or 6 times. Fairly remote though. So as long as you ok with that which by the way makes it closer to go to Havana for a day trip, which is a must. than this is excellent choice. We walked around at the resort next door Cameleon, which quite simply you can't compare. mind you it's probably cheaper, but I wouldn't stay there, not even close to comparable to Jibaccoa. Piano bar is nice at Breezes as well, plus they make great capacinos. Rooms are not highrises , which was a great bonus. plus nestled into a mountain so you can go for a bit of a hike if you want. good luck if you have any questions feel free to email me. We too stayed at Superclub Breezes Jibacoa, next door to the Cameleon.

It is very isolated and quiet, so if that is your sort of holiday, it will be ideal. The snorkelling on the reef is excellent. We spotted Morays, Rays, Octopus, Grouper, Puffer Fish, Pipe Fish, Barracuda and hundreds of others.

We considered this resort but opted for Breezes Varadero for this trip.

Would love to hear your comments when you return.

We are retireing soon and we're looking at Cameleon Jibacoa as an inexpensive long stay resort (3 weeeks)

Have a great trip!

PS I'm originally from an east coast island as well.

We have been to Cuba many times but never have done the Havana trip so Jibacoa is the spot we want to stay at one day for a week holiday and then go over to Havana for a day trip.

The Cameleon is often priced really well from where we live so it makes a very affordable holiday. We are like you...looking for great value but not expensive. I just don't know if it's worth it to spend the extra cash and stay at Breezes. We're not fussy and would love the extra cash for Havana sights so would love to hear from someone who's been to both resorts there and could comment on the actual value difference between the two.

Please get back to us on your reviews and comments...very nice area for snorkeling which we love!

Hi EasternIslanders. We stayed at the Cameleon Villas Jibacoa in early April 2007. We really enjoyed the property. This property ideally suits a laid back quiet vacation. It is quite easy on the budget and the food is in our opinion perfectly okay. The food is not gourmet but it is homestyle fare of fish, chicken, pork, burgers, fries and lots of fruit and vegetables.. The bungalows are spartan in nature. They are simply furnished and have really nice patios to sit out in a quiet environment and relax. There is a wonderful beach to walk on or relax at under a Palapa or tree. Lots of snorkeling. The pool area is beautiful and the pools are adequate and freshwater. If you love nightlife this is not the place for you though. There are lots of day excursions that can be done out of this hotel. Of course those cost money! This hotel is quite a bit easier on the budget than the Breezes Jibacoa next-door. Actually there is $500 each difference in the price between Breezes and Cameleon for the same week that we are going to Cameleon. For us who are on a budget the choice is a no-brainer. And of course there is the same amount of sunshine and beach area as the Breezes next-door. If you need a look at some photos of the Cameleon rooms and property PM me and I will give you a link. Take care.

Paliser.

Hi All

I found a wealth of information on Debbies Carab reviews. I had never considered this resort before. The reviews are all very positive. We have been to Varadero four times before so a change might be good. The prices seem good! We were hoping to go back to Palma Real but we may end up at the Cameleon Villas instead.
