"This is one of my favorite places to go when in town. They play a decent variety of movies (usually shown a few weeks before they come out on video). The cost is excellent-- cheap compared to a normal movie theater. The food selection is great-- you can get a sub or order a pizza or hotdog, chips/ch..."eese etc. They serve beer on tap and slushy margaritas. They also have candy and ice cream. The building is pretty neat--slightly gritty and old but that's what I love about it. My husband also thinks the sound isn't as good (because of the high ceilings of the old building). We usually order pizza and they bring it to you after the movie starts. If you sit in the main theater there are tables in front of your seats where you can eat while you watch the movie. We have sat in the "screening room" for one movie in the past and the experience wasn't as fun; it's just a small room with old crappy chairs so I'd only recommend a movie on the main screen.
Overall it's a fun night out because you ...

"Fat Sam's is our favorite place for lunch in town. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches that are pretty unique. Between my husband and myself, we've tried almost all of them on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. My favorites are the chicken salad sandwich and the southwest chicken sand..."wich.
My favorite is their lunch special that includes a trip to the salad bar and a 1/2 sandwich. They have a small but quality salad bar (they use mixed greens not the cheap iceberg lettuce) and homemade soups that are always different and delicious. The salad bar will also have fresh fruit and a homemade coleslaw or potato salad. It's plenty of food to leave you full for lunch at a cheap price.
We've also tried a few of their appetizers and they've recently added new ones to the menu too. Our favorite is their hummas and pita bread. They have beer on tap too so it's a nice place to go for drinks and a lighter dinner when friends are in town.

"While the name "Family Restaurant" may come across as your average "local" diner, the La Crosse Family Restaurant is so much more. With homemade foods on the menu at an extremely affordable cost, no wonder this place is always packed everyday of the week. Even better, you'll often find the owner "Ch..."ili" walking around talking with patrons and assisting servers. If you're ever in need for a quick, delicious meal at an affordable cost stop by the Family Restaurant. There's even a beautiful view of the Black River right across the highway. PS--Try the breakfast! It's available all day and at only $5.50 you can get 2 eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns or fries with either 2 pancakes or french toast.
