"Deciding to drive across Dartmoor on Bank Holiday Monday we saw the sign to the pub at North Bovey. After negotiating the narrow lanes and having to reverse a couple of times, we were rewarded with the small but delightful village of North Bovey. It is a quintessential Devon village with beautiful t..."hatched cottages and a tree covered green in the centre, with a church and the all important pub. Despite being off the beaten track it was really busy and as it was sunny we were able to sit outside where we shared a table with a delightful couple who were on a short break to the area. The menu was very varied and as we only wanted a snack, we chose a ciabatta roll with smoked salmon and cream cheese. This came quite quickly which was very good as there were a lot of people there. A dressed salad garnish and crisps accompanied the roll which was fresh and filled with an adequate amount of smoked salmon. The bill came to less than £20 and we thought very good value for money. "Well where to start with this hotel? A simply wonderful location and hotel. We visited the main restaurant only as we were staying elsewhere but we took the chance to look around even at a couple of empty rooms on request at reception. The food was excellent as was the service throughout. Yes it is ..."pricey but we felt it was more than justified. You get what you pay for and no point grumbling at the prices of drinks etc as the product is top notch. We aim to stay for a couple of nights next year as a luxury treat. We were told by one of the staff it is up for sale though so hopefully nothing will change between now and then. Just to mention the cheese and biscuits if you're into that sort of thing. I am and it was not so much a dessert but an experience, the choice of cheeses and the explanations provided by the cheese waiter were second to none. I have dined in a number of top London restaurants and none match it.

"It took us some time to find the village of North Bovey, but it was well worth the trip. The village is a picturesque and typical Dartmoor village with a nice atmosphere and the pub fits perfectly into it. It is from the 13th century or so, and it has retained its charm while hosting today's amenit..."ies. Tall people should be on a constant watch for their heads, though, when walking the hallways.
Parking was easy on the village parking lot which is round the corner. The staff was very friendly, which included that our dog posed absolutely no problem.
The menu did not contain many vegetarian options, but those offered turned out to be truly creative and excellent. Extra wishes were approached with a "can do" mindset and creative initiative instead of "just dealing with it". Bravo.
The restrooms were also in an orderly state.
Overall a completely satisfying evening and if we are back in the area, we will surely have dinner there again. Fully recommended.
