We're not regulars in Greenport but as a resident of NYC's suburb, Long Island, a drive "out east" is a nice way to spend a day. I checked Trip Advisor reviews as my husband drove and looked at few different restaurants in Greenport. A few were closed, another one was in the middle of Main street with no view and only small "bar-type" windows. So we tried Blue Canoe. PERFECT! We sat on the outside deck and realized we could see the Shelter Island ferry dock so there was a little bit of foot traffic and got to watch a few boats drift by on this gorgeous afternoon.   "We've been three times since they opened already. Awesome. The food is really very nice. Large portions. Inventive and interesting dishes (try the lobster and shrimp corn dogs!). The service is not as polished as some other places (a lot of young kids), but is friendly and attentive. The drink..."s could use some improvement, however.   "ACCOMODATING AND DELISCIOUS!"
  "We often ride the train to Greenport just for the ride and the scenery...and we should add for Fred and his crew and food at Sterlington Deli. The sandwiches are great, always with a side of cole slaw and pickle. Our "turnaround time" at Greenport is often short...an hour or less...so I email, fax...", or phone our orders ahead and Fred has all ready when we arrive. He is most accomodating, the sandwich menue is broad, the taste deliscious, and the service great. Less than a block from the train station, right off RT 25 to Orient Point. Oh, the prices are right in line, no surprises, just what they should be for the terrific food and service. " More >
