"In case you have been living in a cave in Des Moines everyone knows that Tursi's could very well be the oldest restaurant in Des Moines. They have packed the house for almost, if not a generation. The food is well above average and the service is very well staffed. Over the years Tursi's has changed..." their decor to except the every growing amount of customers which has been a big plus in their success. Romantic atmosphere is the key word here also, but depending where you are seated you might want to bring a flash light to read the menu. A wide selection of entries to choose from and all our top notch.

"I ate here with business colleagues from Europe who had been in the States for a week and were tired of gigantic American portions and burgers. For their last night in town I wanted them to experience the East Village neighborhood and I had recently read a good review of Hoq and wanted to try it.

It was Friday night during prime dinner time and we did not have a reservation, but were able to sit at the bar. The bartender was helpful and weall sampled draft beers from Iowa, which even my German colleagues enjoyed. As a University of Iowa Alum, I was excited to see John's Grocery had a beer on tap there, and it was quite tasty!
The menu was seasonal and nicely edited, with enough variety to satisfy most palates. I had salmon that was done perfectly, while my colleagues had the chicken and the lamb, and I don't think anyone left so much as a morsel on their plates. The portions were just right, enough to satisfy and not gluttonous American sized portions with a lot of waste.

"St. Patrick's Day weekend I ran a 10k race and then came here with my Mom for brunch before heading over to watch the parade. The space is located in my favorite East Village neighborhood and is a small space with high ceilings and a bustling, urban vibe.
You order at the counter and they bring yo..."ur food out to you. I ordered an egg white omelet that was perfectly done. It had asparagus, tomato, and basil, and was perfectly light, fluffy and delicious. Since I had done the 10k, I also felt justified getting a rhubarb Danish that was so good. I also had hot tea, and they have a nice selection and ring it out in an individual steeping pitcher, which is a fun touch.
The staff members were friendly, efficient, and happy to make suggestions.
I see this as a go-to spot for me, and a place I will certainly bring friends, whether from the area or visiting from out of town.
