"I live 5 months of the year 2 miles from this restaurant and was told it was totally over-rated so never visited. Tonight I thought it wise to try and find out for myself. Firstly it has a comfortable feel although the decor is not entirely harmonious. The service was polite friendly and what you wo..."uld expect in a good restaurant. The Menu is not over complex but pleasantly diverse. Presentation on quality of food is near perfect and the whole dining experience was truly excellent with faultless quality. I had a home made Foie Gras followed by one of the most tender pieces of beef I have had in France. Also good was the salade d'atelier. I can never resist Fromage and at first I was disappointed as only one cheese was served; a local Brebis (sheep's cheese); combined with the walnut oil on a green salad made up totally for the lack of choice to give me that truly after dinner satisfaction. "We tried to get into the first rated restaurant in Castelnou for a Sunday lunch based on a local recommendation but got there too late. Completely full said the owner chef but I asked him what was the second best... He directed us to l'Hostal. His judgement was excellent. L'Hostal was provided a gr..."eat lunch and was pretty near full also but the three waitresses worked flat-out with non-stop smiles, energy and table side chat and helpful advice. No complaints regarding the food and service...in fact no complaints, only compliments on what is supposed to be "Second Best".
The village of Castelnou is an absolute delight and a must visit if you are in the area.

"The restaurant staff is very helpful to organize your lunch or dinner. The lunch menu available on Wed, Thur and Fridays is reasonable (around 25 Euros). The views are outstanding from the restaurant, all over the Pyrennes mountains and other hills. The food is of good to great quality but the servi..."ce was very slow for us. There is no elevator, but you can drive the party of people up at the door and go back to park one level lower. This could be improved in the future. It is a bit unbelievable that this type of restaurant could open in the middle of nowhere!
