Now as I sit back to write a review of the restaurants there, only one restaurant springs to mind - that is the Ponram Hotel on the Omalur Main Road. There are different type..."s of biriyanis in India; from the Hyderabadi Dum biriyani to the Malabar Thalassery biriyani, each with its own sets of pros and cons. But the biriyani that truly blew my mind was the Dindigul dum biriyani from Ponram Restaurant in Salem. It is conveniently located about 1 km from the New Bus Stand, Salem. The ambience of the hotel is soothing with instrumental music playing the background. The waiters are courteous and I never had to wait more than 20 minutes for my order to arrive at the table. Though I had tasted other dishes, the Dindigul biriyani at Ponram is incomparable.
