Ok food, Ok service, Ok ambience. We didn't have many options in Luray on a Sunday evening and chose to eat at the Speakeasy Bar as we were staying at the Inn. We ordered fairly standard fair (caesar salad, steak sandwich, apple pie)...it was all okay, at best. The apple pie tasted like a frozen pie that had been warmed...

The food was ok for the price. The place is very nicely decorated for being in the basement of the hotel.
Ok. So let's break this review into two separate parts; food and drink.
Food:
I had read some of the previous reviews concerning the food coming from the kitchen of the Speakeasy. I will admit I was apprehensive, and to my relief, I found the negative reviews to be mistaken. I enjoyed my prime rib, correctly cooked to medium rare,...

This place has great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Good wine list and full bar. The Jager Schnitzel is particularly good, and the onion/garlic dip with chips is really worth the sacrifice of giving up the "I'll never eat potato chips again" pledge for at least one day.
We had the special of the night and it was wonderful! There was a wait to get a seat as the restaurant is in the basement and not very big but I was very pleased with the quality of the food.
The food was pricey for what it was, and not that great. You could skip this experience. The live music on Thursday night was pretty good though- acoustic covers were nice to hear.
We stayed in the Mimslyn Inn and the lovely Circa 31 restaurant was closed (off season, they only open for dinner on weekends) so we ventured downstairs to the Speakeasy and were glad we did. The food is typical bar fare. We got fish and chips and our meal of plentyful and reasonably priced. There was live acoustic music which...

We had dinner here the night we arrived at the Mimslyn Inn and it was the best meal we've had at a restaurant in quite some time. Other than the food, I particularly liked the fact that the singer who was performing that evening had the volume on his amps low enough that you could carry on a conversation. So...

On a cold rainy night it was great not to have to leave the Inn for dinner. The Speakeasy was delicious! We really enjoyed their selection of comfor foods...the chicken pot pie. Just like Mom used to make! Our server Melissa was most attentive. Looked like the locals enjoy the bar scene here. That's a nice compliment.
