Went to dinner on Memorial Day and Tarrant's didn't quite live up to being the #1 Richmond restaurant based on tripadvisor. Maybe the regular head chef was off for the holiday but it just seemed entrees were coming out really slow. Like slow as in so long after the appetizer that you're not hungry any more slow. We noticed others... More

The menu is creative and everything is well-prepared. The she-crab soup is pricey, but worth it. Service is excellent and polite. While the decor is upscale, dress is casual, which is comfortable. The only disappointment I've ever had is that the cocktails were weak. Otherwise, a consistently enjoyable experience.

What a unique restaurant find, just a short walk from the Jefferson Hotel and a ways away from the more developed (and touristy) Shockoe Bottom part of the city. The building Tarrant's occupies was once Tarrant's Drug Store in the mid-1800s, and the inside of the restaurant is decorated with a mix of old wooden booths and tables, a wonderful... More

This is a great little restaurant. Hearkens back to Cheers. Very friendly staff, and excellent food at reasonable prices that is served in a timely manner...not to fast or too slow. Get the pasta, or get the seafood. Do not miss the crab soup!

Tarrant's remains one of the most consistently positive culinary experiences in the area. The seafood selection is extensive and always fresh, tasty, and cooked to perfection. Numerous visits and never a meal that was not well-prepared, served in a timely manner by friendly and knowledgeable wait staff, and a good wine selection. Is a wonderfully restored "historical" building that has... More

Good brandy old fashioned...must try a julep next time. Shrimp and grits was flavorful and creamy, with texture provided by corn and peppers(?) Service was perfect. Atmosphere was old and interesting.

I love the decor of Tarrant's. I had lunch here on a Saturday. The service was great and the food was pretty good. The menu is enormous, which means there's a choice for everyone in your party. I had the grilled fish sandwich and my mahi mahi was a bit overcooked, but the fixings were great - try the hand-cut... More

Great brunch! We stopped in on a Sunday morning around opening time (10AM) and ordered the asparagus omelet and beef tenderloin eggs benedict. Also, we asked to substitute a side of their cheesy grits for the home fries and they happily obliged. Both meals were incredible! We will definitely go back next time we are staying tin Richmond.

Not sure how we missed this one over the years - we travel to Richmond extensively and made reservations at Tarrant's Cafe based on Tripadvisor ratings. Although we picked a busy weekend (VCU graduation) and the restaurant was packed, they have an extensive menu, our service was great, the atmostphere was lively and we thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. Would highly... More

Great spot hidden in a depressed neighborhood. Easy walk from the downtown hotels or they valet parking if needed. A real gem of restaurant. Great atmosphere in an old narrow brick buildind with seasoned wood floors. They have flowers at every table. Predominantly booths with a few table and chair combos. The menu has very good variety. The food was... More
