Any time I'm in Anchorage one of the places I consider for lunch is the Gumbo House. I don't get there as often as I'd like but enjoy every bite to the max. I'll be back.
I had the bbq pork po boy with potato salad and it was great but I don't know about the gumbo or seafood. The staff is very friendly. I've also ordered from here for business lunches and they're very good - on time, food is packaged well, and reasonably priced. It's a cozy little spot to have lunch and a... More
Generous portions of tasty gumbo and jambalaya at a fair price. I went on a day when the special was half of a salmon po boy and a cup of gumbo which made a great lunch.
Our family of four had dinner there on Friday. We were really looking forward to it. It's a converted house with diners in a couple of small rooms. We ordered 3 orders of shrimp gumbo and one shrimp po-boy. My husband said the po-boy was very good. We started with a double order of crabcakes. They were the size of... More
Great Value - especially in Alaska. Two of us got the gumbo - the roux was a bit dark but it was cooked perfectly - oyster, sausage, chicken and okra. Others got po boys that looked awesome, as did the jambalaya. Service was friendly enough, but I wouldn't call it warm. The outdoor seating is a plus and the facilities... More
I have a hard time getting past the gumbo. That means I'm a long way from bayou country and it is really hard to find any gumbo up here. This place manages to produce gumbo that has all the right seasonings and flavors. It's hard to resist, even though there are many goodies to choose from on the menu. You... More
We went here our first night in Anchorage because it was the closest place to eat within walking distance of our B & B. Though it was only a little before closing time, we were made to feel warmly welcome. We shared a "bucket" sized shrimp gumbo. It was good if you like a brown roux - I'm more used... More
Eaten there twice now. Everything we had was delicious! Fried Oyster and Shrimp PoBoy, Jumbalaya, Kitchen Sink Gumbo, and Fried Oyster Remolaude are fantastic. This has definitely become my new first choice for Anchorage!
Has the Kitchen Sink Gumbo and the Chicken Gumbo for dinner, wow, what a meal! Wasn't expecting gumbo this good in Alaska, but was quite pleasantly surprised. Glad I took my friend's recommendation. We carried out this time, but plan on visiting the restaurant soon.
