Cavanaugh's has taken over the Dark Horse Pub and it now operates under the name Cavanaugh's Headhouse Pub. The bar/restaurant is basically unchanged except for a new manager, Still serves basically 'pub food' which is weel prepared but not great. People come her because of the atmosphere as a bar, not for the food. Recent visit was for a group... More

Notice that the Dark Horse is no longer open. Been replaced by Cavanaughs. Dissapointing. The dark horse was one of my favorite pubs in Philly. Good drinks, excellent food and darts and soccer!

Ambiance, a friendly bartender, friendly folks at the downstairs bar, great beer on tap - what's not to like! Under new ownership, the Dark Horse is what a neighborhood pub is all about. Prices are good, and the Dark Horse is a place to go for dinner, drinks, or to watch football with friends. While the menu is bar-typical, it's... More

The dark horse used to have reliably good English pub food like shepard's pie. No more. My wife and I were there for dinner on a recent weekend evening and the place was dead around 8:15. The food was over salted and overcooked rubbish. The menu is now generic American sports bar fare. I felt sorry for the server who... More

Great bar, has plenty of different rooms to hang out and relax, play darts or sit and talk. decent beer selection, including lager's, wit's and cider for the less daring. The food selection was ok, i had a burger which i thought was pretty good. the staff was pretty friendly and the bartenders were quick to get your drink even... More

The Dark Horse used to be a reliably good pub and restaurant. Nothing fancy, but competent British Pub fare with great offerings like Shepard's Pie. Alas, no more. New ownership and management have produced a menu of bland sports bar offerings. A so called "Chicken Brie" had overcooked chicken, an inedible Portobello mushroom, smothered in some kind of over-salted cheese... More

Stopped by for a couple of beers on a Saturday afternoon. There weren't many people there when we arrived. All of the bartenders were very friendly. They have an excellent beer selection, including Boddington's on tap. Dark Horse has a great English/Irish pub atmosphere, several distinct bar and eating areas, and several dart boards. I would definitely recommend it if... More

We stopped here for an early dinner with a large group of adults, teens and young kids. There was something for everyone, including a large beer selection and a kids menu! The food was great and the service was friendly.

Went for a family 30th birthday. Dark horse is a historic bar with quaint little rooms and different bar areas. We were led to the 2nd floor piano bar. We also were given a great bar package with open bar for 2 hours. Our bartender did a great job keeping up with us and making some great drinks and shots... More

I visited this place with a tourist group from Germany for a prearranged dinner. When we got in I noticed the great beer selection and, having Germans, it is needless to say that they liked it. I had the bartender tell me all the details such as where the beer is from and also the costs of the different beers.... More
