After securing a reservation exactly one month in advance, four of us were looking forward to experiencing this much talked about bistro. Perhaps the hype set our expectations too high. Yes it is small and charming but I didn't feel the service was overly warm. Our waiter reminded me of the typical Parisian waiter, efficient, matter of fact but a... More

Having grown up in Philly my wife and I come back regularly to see friends. This time we had a late dinner after a concert. We called when we knew we were going to be delayed and were assured there was no problem. We were graciously welcomed and after ordering served quickly but not hurriedly. The menu changed frequently and... More

Bibou is placed a taxi ride to the south of Rittenhouse square. It is very tiny, extremely popular, and deservedly so. They are BYOB. They have some signature dishes, e g their snails with beans and their stuffed pigs trotter. Both are really excellent. We had their tasting menu this sunday, which was VERY competitively priced. The cold asparagus soup... More

We have never been disappointed at Bibou. Last Friday to start, we ordered a chilled asparagus soup that tasted of Spring. A salad with a very interesting way of getting a whisper of blue cheese in there. And a scallop still attached to its shell; very sweet and fresh. I placed myself in Pierre's hands and ordered the quinelle, a... More

Imaginative cuisine -- the ingredients sometimes looked over the top, but the results were magnficent. Friendly service, with the chef coming out to talk to all the customers. We were lucky to get in without a long-standing reservation.

We dined at Bibou on a Sunday night; only the fixed price menu was available. We started with a soup (delicious) and chose the foie gras appetizer (even more delicious). One member of our party chose the fish while the rest of us chose the pork. My husband's pork was perfect, moist and tender. Unfortunately, another member of our party... More

Scoring a table at this new star on the South Philly scene takes pluck, or in my case, the right friend. But regardless how you get there, the Calmels will not disappoint. Be ready for cozy, but not cramped, seating in the modest dining room. Flawless, knowledgable and unobtrusive service make you quickly succumb to the happy energy of this... More

Pierre Calmels and his wife have a delightful restaurant. Elevating French "country" cooking to "high art," the food is adventurous, and the service is always among the most friendly in the city. We have been here four times with no disappointment. I suggest leaving your "prized collectible" bottles at home (it's BYOB), and instead bring high-quality examples of Middle Loire... More

It was a very adventurous meal. Everyone in our group stepped out of their comfort zones a little, and my god ... Are we glad we did. Highlights were the marrow bone, the steak tartare, and the escargot. My entree was interesting. It was a seafood dumpling. I've never had anything like it. It was this cakey-doughy dumpling with fish... More
