Description: PYLOS honors the breadth of traditional Greek cuisine by bringing fresh, wholesome cooking from all regions of Greece to an elegant, contemporary and comfortable setting in the East Village. We introduce our consulting chef, Diane Kochilas, the world's foremost authority, teacher and award winning author on Greek cuisine. Our Name Among the ruins of ancient Greece were items such as clay pots that revealed many clues to daily Hellenic life. PYLOS (pronounced Pee-'los) - the root word that includes things of clay - celebrates these prosaic artifacts we now recognize as great art. PYLOS honors traditional Greek cuisine by bringing fresh, wholesome cooking from all regions of Greece to the East Village.

Came here upon reading the reviews. This place is amazing. The atmosphere is quite inviting and the food is delicious. The red wine suggested by our waiter was a hit. We had the fish, delicious, pastitio (macaroni with meat and cream sauce) delicious, and the famous meatballs. Everything was cooked to perfection. For dessert, try the galactobourekakia (phyllo dough with... More

I expected to thoroughly enjoy our meal here because of all the rave reviews...I did, along with the other five in our party of six. From first walking into the beautifully decorated restaurant, to ending with fabulous coffee with our dessert and everything in between, it was near perfection. Some hi-lights: -The Red Greek wine suggested by waitress, so good!... More

Found by reading the reviews here, we went to Pylos in East Village without a reservation. First offered the “community table”, the hostess said that we would need to wait “at least” 10 minutes to get a table. I have surely waited way longer just to get fast food! And as she said, 10 minutes later, we had a nice... More

Hitting a greek restaurant with a Greek is always dicey (never as good as Mum makes...) but honestly our meal was fantastic. We had the lamb chops and they tasted just like they came from the family taverna. Highly recommend this restaurant - ensure you make reso's as it's always busy. Break out and try the wine from Greece -... More

I'm Greek myself and I wasn't expecting to find this nice Greek food in New York. And importantly, the food at Pylos wasn't too expensive. All the dishes that we had were excellent. Another Greek restaurant that we tried in NYC was Avra. Also excellent Greek food, but bit more expensive.

The atmosphere is wonderful, great decor with the jugs on the ceiling, my little son was in awe of this the whole evening. The staff very attentive and food was tasty and good portions. The price was reasonable and would recommend this as a family venue

Okay maybe it isn't better than Greece because eating under the Akropolis is its own special treat regardless of the food..... But the food and atmosphere were great!

Don't miss this if you like Greek food! Make Sure to try the branzino and baby lamb chops. The service is very welcoming.

Great welcome and service from the very start! From the minute I walked in and was led to a table by an attentive and friendly restaurant hostess to the minute I left, I was more than satisfied with the food and the services. There is a great mix of traditional Greek cuisine but I recommend the meatballs for appetizer! If... More
