Anne from Ballat Smithy cottage recommended we go here for our evening meals. Tried the first night but they were booked out. The next night we went in early, before service started and found a table and waited. It paid off for as soon as service started it was full again.
Good food and a good house red wine, with...

It was not as good as I expected it to be. The food was pretty average and I think it could be better.
Waitresses and staff friendly and food excellent, great atmosphere and Pub frequented by locals which is a good sign - would certainly recommend for a good meal and pleasant surrounds, very warm and cozy.
nice friendly staff, good food, good portions. good alternative for the winnock hotel next to the inn.

Good selection of beers and excellent food, the rack of Lamb was delicious and the cheese board was excellent but maybe a few more cracker would have been nice.
Lovely old pub which is a pleasure to visit. Good quality food and enough to keep you going. A mixture of locals and visitors eating and drinking creating a great atmosphere.

Visited here on day 1 of the WHW. Great service and really nice food. We had the garlic prawns for starters followed by the beef and lamb burgers. No frozen chips here..!! Desert was delicious, my son had the toffee fudge sundae and I had the raspberry and white choc cheesecake. Thoroughly recomended.
