We discovered this place on the recommendation of an acquaintance from Myrtle Beach who comes to Charleston a lot. Later, we were told this is a local favorite. The restaurant did not disappoint. It is not really a "fine dining" experience, but the food is very good and the service very good as well. My wife enjoyed her portabella mushroom... More

I went here for lunch strictly for the peanut butter pie. I figured I would enjoy the lunch too but save room for dessert. It’s a very casual place with tables up front and a community table in the back. The server was very nice and helpful, once I was able to grab her. She didn’t just come to the... More

You should try five loaves only if you are really hungry, love quality food and good service, and don't mind paying under $20 for a wonderful entree. Five loaves exceeded our expectations. We also needed some gluten-free options and from table bread to dessert to hard cider, we were not disappointed. Some tips: it appears to be a very popular... More

Would have given 4.5 stars. It's casual, friendly, unpretentious, pleasant. Great server (Steven) and food was very good. Lots of good choices that met with our preferences, and the "loaves" part was very good, too. We were quite happy with our dinner choice and only wish we lived nearby. What a good little gem. Initially, we looked for reviews, but... More

I always go there for the salmon Cobb salad and they always make it the way I like it. I'll usually want my salmon heated and they have no problems with doing so. The service is always awesome and as being a student downtown Charleston this food outlets are a necessity. Five loaves has become one of my faves and... More

A little out of the way, but well worth it. If you have a child in school in Charleston, then you know about this place. Fresh food and great waitstaff. Vegetarian or meat lovers, the menu will fit you! You can`t go wrong here!

My wife and I walked from our hotel on Meeting Street near the Market to this cozy restaurant two blocks off the King Street beaten path this evening. We both love a good meal but can't enjoy ourselves if we feel we're paying out the nose. We were both delighted with our dining experience tonight. Five Loaves is fairly small,... More

Five Loaves Café is not to be missed! My wife and I found parking on the opposite corner which was a miracle. Waited around 15 minutes at 1:30 in the afternoon! I did the 3 small soup pours, tomato zucchini, thai vegetable and black bean. Served in espresso size cups was a perfect complement to my sweet chili glazed eggplant... More

Followed the positive reviews and ate here for lunch, then came back for dinner. Both meals were excellent. You can pay much more in the heart of the historic district and get so much less. This place is a gem if you love healthy, fresh food cooked with love. We liked the neighborhood too, nice mix of people.

Culinary gem a little off the beaten track, but close enough to walk to and well worth the trip. We paid about half of what we would have paid on East Bay St. and the food was just as good, if not better. Our server Stephen was pinch-hitting to help out his lovely wife, the manager, and very knowledgeable (he... More
